Hello Overwatch 2 Team,
I want to address a longstanding issue that has persisted since the release of Overwatch. It concerns the default voice channel settings in the game. Currently, many players do not join the team voice channel automatically, resulting in numerous games where communication is lacking because players aren’t aware they’re not in the channel or simply choose not to join.
Out of 17 games played, it’s common to find only 1 or 2 players actively communicating in voice chat. This significantly impacts teamwork and coordination, which are crucial in a game like Overwatch. I strongly advocate for making the team voice channel the default option for all players. This would ensure that everyone is initially placed into the channel where team communication can naturally occur. Players who prefer not to participate can still opt out manually.
Furthermore, there seems to be a lack of clarity in the UI regarding whether players are in the voice channel or not, leading to further confusion. Improving the UI to provide clear indications of voice channel status would also help in addressing this issue.
In conclusion, given the team-oriented nature of Overwatch and the importance of communication in gameplay, I believe that defaulting players into the team voice channel would greatly enhance the overall experience. Thank you for considering this feedback, and I hope to see improvements in this aspect of the game in Overwatch 2.

Isn’t the default option auto-join for team (voice) chat? I turned that off on purpose - and I assume many others did as well. Whenever I start up the game I join voice chat but often leave in the firsts match as soon as the screeching begins and then in the matches after I stay out.
They make it default. I’ll turn the chat volume to zero and turn my mic off.
Fair compromise.

you think the issue is that people are too stupid to know how to use VC when in reality we are all choosing to not use it.

Nope. I need to take care of my mental health. No voice chat, unless I feel for it.
We’ll all be banned if that happens. Having voice chat on is risky business.

I’m afraid this isn’t the case at the moment. Currently, new players and newcomers automatically join the group voice channel instead of the team voice channel. This setup often means that team communication suffers because many players aren’t aware they should be in the team voice channel or how to switch to it.
I respect players who choose not to use voice chat and believe they should have the option to disable it if they prefer. However, setting the team voice channel as the default would create more opportunities for communication among teammates. I’ve noticed instances where new players have gone an entire season without realizing they weren’t in the team voice channel. This seems unnecessary for such a basic feature.
I disabled it years ago.
I was sick of people listening (bad) music too loud, babies or kids crying in the back, 10 years old in the game cursing actual good players, people breathing so loudly it covers the previous music. And all of it at the same time !
Plus, it’s worse on European servers with all the different languages and some persisting of speaking their own knowingly that there are 5 others people from different countries.
Spanish and French first in line to make no efforts, Germans making real efforts to speak english, french according to whom is on their team but with a so thick accent that it’s complicated to understand them.
The only usual good elements are Swedish/Norvegian/Danish.
Hopefully, they are here. Not only on voice chats, but in the continent to level up the plainfield. I am personally ashamed of my country people attitude. And not only on Overwatch, unfortunately.
With chat on as default I have gone through:
- Ppl who plays adult vid in loud sound behind the scene
- Sound of ppl constantly eating snacks
- Playing music that only that player think is cool
- Stupid non-stop rapping/ singing
- Mother scolding son
- Kids taunting, picking fight
etc.
No pls
I always use comms in comp, but only ever in qp if someone else is
My games are quiet as hell. I mean the only noise is when someone is using comms properly so.
