Team voice chat exists for a reason

Overwatch is a team-based game especially in competitive, and a good team needs good communication, right? So please when we say “Vc” come in, I don’t need you to talk at least hear me when I call out you can leave or mute if it became toxic (which I mostly avoid), but PLEASE don’t just ignore it because this is a TEAM BASED GAMEPLAY

At the ranks I play at I’ve only heard it used for toxicity.

i had a player who kept on talking to himself. Didn’t listen to anyone, didn’t provide any helpful prompts … it became so distracting that other teammates started leaving the VC.

My old rules were if anyone just said “VC” or “voice” or something similar on its own, I would not join because the chances were high that I’d prefer to not be in VC with them. If someone typed, “Hi guys, anyone in voice?” or similar I’d nearly always join because the chances were good I’d benefit from their comms or at least have a good time.

Now I don’t use VC at all rather discord/groups mostly because of the harsh account action system. I don’t have text on either so I can’t even see people like the OP typing. There’s no way anyone is worth losing my main account. You don’t need voice to win in OW.

i mean, i just started opting in.

it’s almost always empty.

except once we had all five of us in there but we still lost because one of the supports was AWFUL.

not sure how comms fixes that.

doesnt mean ppl need to join vc

My dude, this is not 9x/0x anymore .

Saying “vc” is not an excuse for not joining. I say Vc so we can communicate properly as a team, You’re right that you don’t wanna lose your main account so it’s simple, whenever someone becomes toxic then just mute them and report them, but not joining in the first place because of vague assumptions that’s not right.

And yeah you don’t always need Vc to win but sometimes people DO need it to communicate with each other properly so they play properly so they win, sometimes you don’t even need to talk just listen

its a team based game. Team based need communication. Its a hinderence to not be in chat.

Yes, it is. Who are you to tell me if it is or is not?

Thank you for the neat demonstration of the general rule’s effectiveness.

I think it’s an advantage if you can make good callouts like when I do x can you do y or asking for things like nano and calling out which enemy to focus, when they used important cooldowns etc. like no sleep or no lamp or no suzu or no fade or no recall or no bubbles, and/or whoever is 1hp.

Or if you can stall or touch point in overtime and when you need to get off. The bad shotcallers try to micromanage others too much or else they focus too much on team strategy and comps which almost never works outside of 5 stacks.

Who am I? A player who wants to communicate with his teammates the best way possible especially if the match was complicated and needed communication, and yeah I think not joining and refuseing to even litsen just because I typed 2 letters “vc” is irrational, I mean no disrespect or insult when I type the “vc” so no need to be too defensive

Then whyd you call him “dude”?

Pretty much this, you can always mute person(s) later on. Even calling out off-position-targets is valuable on its own. Just to listen even if not speaking.

Mate… you think communicating in the best way possible is calling someone irrational and defensive just because they won’t do exactly what you tell them, even after they explained why, and that was just a demand to join the chat. We can deduce exactly how you’ll be if someone refuses to play a hitscan v pharah or doesn’t swap off a dive tank to shield or remains on Zen or something else that you think should be done but isn’t for whatever reason.

game promotes toxicity by virtue of how flawed it is , which actually seems intentional . If yall want ppl in voice chat so bad, then remove the report function first. it’s gonna be more arguing & s*** talking than any “team communication” .

What i found incredible is that here in EU we have so many languages so i can understandable that no one use voice chat, but in the NA?? I ever think u are so lucky!

Well, you can mute **** talkers and report them if they were **** talking, no need to **** talk back if you don’t wanna get banned, but for me I use vc for call outs and comms and many matches I find it very useful

The problem is the strategies involved in this game can all be boiled down to the ping system. Anything more advanced than that is unnecessary and unreasonable for randoms to follow. If you want good communication get a static team because communication is also a skill that requires practice which you will not get with random people. If I have to explain why they are being pinged its already lost, this is comp, you should know the play you should know the position you should know your hero if you don’t go play quickplay.

I don’t usually require much complexity since I play solo, all what I want is hearing what needs to be heard.
When I play as a tank/supp and say “someone’s low finish him” I want that to be heard.
When I see that an enemy Tank is bullying us and my teammates are just trying to shoot anything I want them to hear that we need to focus countering that tank or the support that supplies it

I mean communicating in the best way possible in the game by doing the best for the (team), calling you defensive is another thing because you were defensive when you say (Who are you to tell what to do? Now you make me think I was right by not joining the game VC).
And yeah not joining a VC based on ASSUMPTIONS because someone said VC without insulting instead of (is there anyone in the voice?) And insisting of that is an irrational action.
And no need to mix things up because being mad as someone who doesn’t switch a hero to another one has nothing to do with our discussion because I’m not the type of guys who gets angry of not switching AS LONG AS it’s not harming the team
