Taunt added to the tanks

How bad or good do you think the community would react if the bext tank had a taunt skill.

Negatively because people won’t like having agency taken away from them. If instead of a taunt the ability worked as a life link that redirected damage from allies to the tank, people would complain about the new tank being too good at protecting teammates and slowing the game down.

That doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be done or is a bad idea, I just think that people will complain about new stuff whatever it actually is. A new character’s ability could be to hand out real money to every player in the match, and people would complain that filthy skill-less scrubs were getting as much money as really cool skillful people like themselves.

This isn’t an RPG Dom, that would go very, very badly. Damage mains would lose their mind, I have no doubt at all.

It’s a hero combat game, not a FPS. There are multiple heroes who don’t even shoot.

Granted it’s not an RPG

I like lg so i wouldn’t be too against a taunt as long as it isnt

  • AOE
  • applies with each bullet.
  • also insta-kills

Unless its an ult. Of course.

A damage redirect on its own would make the tank instagib himself in many situations. Could get really ugly.

As the game stands right now, a “shoot the tank” strat works much better now than it did last season. Especially if the tank is dumb enough to “take space” and just sit there allowing the enemy team to light them up. Damage redirect wouldn’t help much in those scenarios. It would be funny with stuff like immortality field and nanoboost.

I don’t mind the idea of a taunt myself but I think that psychologically a life link would go down better. A life link does what is really the exact same thing - guy wants to shoot at squishy, but has to hit the tank instead - but maybe guy would be fooled into thinking it’s different.

I can’t help but think of how original WoW pre-release (can’t remember if it was a beta or even earlier) had an XP penalty if you played for too long, and resting at an inn removed the penalty. Players didn’t like that. So instead they made resting at the inn put a buff on the player that increased XP gains, and playing for too long would wear out the buff.

People were much more accepting of the buff approach even though in real terms, it was the exact same thing as the debuff approach. It’s just that it seemed better.

It’s a FPS, subgenre Hero Shooter.

While some heroes play like some FPS games, most don’t. While I get the desire to make it a subcategory, truth is, it isn’t.

I have no real desire to belabor the point however. If you want to call it a subgenre, more power to you. I can see a convincing argument either way.

It actually is, you are wrong.

Overwatch is a First Person Shooter. In fact, most Heroes can shoot and the game offers traditional First Person Shooter Game Modes.

It is a First Person Shooter if you like it or not.

Taunt would be interesting if implemented correct. Like a damage reduce on heroes not the tank when hit with the taunt. It would have to be a new tank and ability not accross all tanks as it would be impossible to implement universally

I would like a support that links to a teamate and takes half the damage for the linked teamate. Imagining the combination that support could do to make use of that ability is kind of fun. Could be broken though.

Yeah thats fair, kinda delving into semantics here, but i’ll concede that. Not everyone has a “gun.” Calling it a “shooter” game is hardly a stretch though imo.

I don’t think the playerbase is emotionally capable of handling a taunt mechanic. That said, it’s pretty unique to FPSes like this as far as I know, so I wonder if blizzard is working on it lol

How would taunt even look like?

The closest one we have in game is Mauga cage

I think it would be hard to code but I can see an ability forcing everyone to look at a certain character as an interesting choice.

LMAO Overwatch is a First Person Shooter, Every Character has to be aimed in First person. IT IS A FPS BY EVERY Definition, Sub Genre : Team Role Based First Person Shooter
