Target Reporting

Curious on what peoples thoughts are on this. for the first time since starting overwatch in 2017, I’ve been silenced from Chat. I find this to be a wild situation where it aligns directly with my long play sessions over the past few days. What has been happening is, I decided to pick up Anran from Juno this season and really learn her. I was already pretty comfortable with her before going into comp, and as we all know it takes playing comp to see where you really are with a character. well what I’m learning with this transition from support to DPS is, if we are losing and you aren’t 10000 and 0, its your fault. And with anran not being a very stat hungry hero, I find myself in the crosshairs anytime the team does bad, this leads to harassment from other players and any time I snap back at people I guess now people are using that to target report me, which lead to this silence. I’m genuinely curious what I should do because I tend to use chat to keep games light hearted and easy going so muting it would ruin part of the experience but getting target reported by a team because they 1 don’t understand how the game works and 2 think everyone but them is the issue. I also think its unfair that people can just use the report system as a weapon against you which seems far more harmful then me being rude to someone who’s been harassing me all game.

You lost nothing. 2 in 3 games the chat isn’t working anyway. Just happened to me in stadium. The team chat was disabled while the enemy chat was working lmao

You have two options. The first is to recognize that those kids without anyone who cares about them in their lives are useless and not worth addressing, or you mute chat so you are not tempted to make fun of them. That is it. It is not complicated. I am not witholding any secrets. You are not allowed to respond to them. If you can manage that on your own, no need to mute. If you feel the compulsion to bully your special teammates, you need to remove yourself from the equation.

They are losers. Do not let them drag you down.

I talk back, but I’m strategic about how many games I do that in. If I’ve been mouthing off for a game or two, it’s time to play a few and keep quiet. I also don’t care to reply to most people if they say something that slightly annoys me. Only if they are hard targetting me with their harassment do I finally bother to say something back.

And of course, always report them for being toxic.

Stop arguing with children in a video game. Problem solved.

Group targeting is a genuine thing that happens and I think it’s disgusting. It doesn’t happen often but it is still an abuse of a system. IMO verified false reporting should carry a multi-day ban and revoking the ability to report.

You can only receive 1 report per match and it seems like he was snapping back multiple times since the season dropped. Unless you say a big no no word or consistently saying report worthy stuff you’re fine.

People do it on this forum all the time by flagging posts. Blame Blizzard for rewarding them.

i played roughly 87 games in about 24 hours so there’s frequency bias. so if every 5 games someone got mad at me or didn’t like what i did and decided to report me for what ever reason that’s at least 17 reports which is roughly a report per hour over a 24 hour period. which is what i assume the system flagged.

Yea that might do it ppl must really hate you wow how did you even manage that many games

I’ll be smarter about my responses next time. I genuinely just get annoyed by people who instantly want to point the finger at people and blame everyone but themselves but the real issue is those who harass me all game and flame me in both team chat and match chat or the entire team plays follow the leader and dog piles who ever the first person is flaming. I never had this issue on support but as soon as i started playing dps if i wasn’t hard carrying i was always the target of harassment and the bad part is its unlikely those people will ever get punished for it which is why i never bother reporting anyways because the system favors frequency over context.

Don’t use the chat if you cannot behave. Reports aren’t from one singular game, they add up and multiple reports from on March are counted as one.

Ignore it and don´t snap back. If people are fighting in my lobby, I don´t care, who started it, I report them all. People need more self control over their anger.
Also, if you pareticipate in fight, you are seen also as disruptive, if anyone ever checks the logs (human or AI).
It´s not, that you are targeted, people just don´t wanna deal with your crap.

Don’t do this.

.. probably the snap back part.

If you report them they will.

I’ve been on Overwatch for many years at this point, and my overarching observation is this game would make Mahatma Gandhi homicidal if he played it enough. This game CAN drive you nuts, especially if you overplay it.

So, I don’t talk in chat, because, that way, if I say something I’ll regret, nobody will hear it but me. My team can’t be angered at me if they can’t hear me, and the mods can’t ban me because nobody heard anything I said.

If my team wins, I type in Group Chat, “GG guys, great job!” Group chat means only my teammates will hear it, and saying GG to the other team might be perceived as trolling. The vast majority of the time, people only say GG so the opponents can hear is if they won.

If my team did poorly, I don’t say anything, because saying GG after a loss might be perceived as trolling, and nerves can run high in tough matches.

If my team was so bad I don’t want to endorse them, I endorse the enemy team’s supports for the bonus 100 XP and then, I walk.

That’s really all there is to it. I got to Endorsement level 5 that way, and I stayed there that way. Talking on voice is only a good idea if you’re with trusted friends. There are so many jerks in pug matches that you’re not going to have any fun trying to put up with them, and gaming is at least SUPPOSED to be fun.

Yeah this is the first time since the endorsement system came out that I haven’t been lvl 5
