Hey guys, I would like to start off by saying Retribution is beyond great, well done Overwatch team, I’m really having fun by playing as Reyes in this mode, but unfortunately, this update also brought a problem with the tanks, that being: there are way to many counters to us, tank mains, perhaps the buffs and nerfs weren’t all that bad but it makes playing tank so boring.
I’m trying to main a DPS because of this, and I was never a fan of being a DPS player, I always try to tank in every game I play, from MMO’s to Team-based shooters now, heck, I was even demoman eyelander and heavy main in TF2. But I’m sad to say that tanks are in a really bad spot right now.
I know you guys are trying to balance things, break the dive comp meta for a bit etc, but every single tank in the game is suffering from this changes, I’ve never seen so few people playing tanks in QM and it saddens me, just today I saw a team with 4 DPS and 2 supports win from my team and we were using the 2-2-2 comp.

Tanks are getting stuffed by heroes with insane mobility, spam, and stuns. Hell, the only tanks that have been consistently meta are the most mobile ones. Surprised?
In blizzards attempt to kill dive, they killed tanks. For casuals, the meta has consistently been shifting over to triple/quad DPS comps.

Exactly, and to be honest, at this point I don’t know how they could fix the tanks, considering that they aren’t really the problem but the heroes around them, I still think Reinhardt is the most balanced hero out there, but because of the heroes buffed or added later on he became weak.
You see 4-2 because tanks aren’t necessary to win in QP. In a competitive place they are, but not in QP. By contrast, healers are 100% a necessity.
My point is, never in my history playing QM had I ever lost to a 4 DPS team, when I pick tank, my team usually follow with the 2-2-2 meta, I pick Winston, someone pick D.va so on and so forth, then, we would crush the enemy team, but this? Reaper just destroyed me, when my team thought they were going to kill him he just goes away, and I played as Reaper and boy, he is extremely fun to play as right now.
Well you just answered your own question. Reaper is new. That’s why people are playing him. I played him on the PTR and at first it was extremely fun, but you quickly come to realize he isn’t broken.
Also, sorry for the mistakes on my grammar, had a really long test today, it’s 3 A.M here and I’m studying for a test tomorrow right now.
I don’t think they need to buff the tanks really (except Dva needs something to make up for what she lost), I think they need to nerf some of the tankbusters. Brig is insane. She needs to be nerfed so hard. After that, I don’t know… maybe tune down junk a little.

Yes, he isn’t, like I said on my post, the nerfs and buffs are not a big deal, but playing tanks is extremely boring, people are seeing no point in it and it doesn’t help that people that do pick tanks are getting destroyed easily.

I honestly don’t understand what Blizzard’s goal is. On one hand they supposedly want to kill dive, on the other…it’s apparently more important to squash a potential tank meta instead of the meta we already have.

Yeah, it’s because they wanted to stop the dive not by nerfing Winston and D.VA but by buffing and adding heroes that counters them, the problem is, their counters are also every other tank counters.
But they actually nerfed D.VA, so I’m lost…
Im lost too… and bummed about the “i-forgot-to-mention-it” nerf to her boost dmg.

Yeah, Tanks are getting the hard shaft from the Overwatch team.
I started out playing DPS, as that is normally what I play in other games, but found way too easy to play or way too weak to keep up with the other characters.
Then, I found Reinhardt and I was in love. He was everything I wished I could have in my other games: a great shield, a heavy swinger, and his Charge is fun as hell. I became a die hard Rein main after the very first time I played him.
Then, the changes started rolling in and the new characters started coming out. And poor Rein became a character that everyone dreaded having someone pick. I literally got asked on several occasions to switch by teammates.
The community of Rein players came together and started trying to figure out how to make Rein a viable option again. And we did…then two days later, Poppa Jeff comes out and basically says, “There’s nothing wrong with Rein.” Do you see the irony of this statement? Pretty much every Rein player is straight up telling you that there is something wrong and you are turning a blind eye to it.
I love my big German Tank, but he is totally getting shafted by the “meta” now. Because of the so called DPS/Heal stack or some other stupid meta, I can’t even get a healer to help me out when I go Rein because they would rather spend their time healing the meta picks and cause me to constantly either have to go seek out a health pack or die all the freaking time.
In a game with damn near 30 characters, I shouldn’t feel constrained to having to pick the current “meta” character or whatever nonsense they come up with next week in order to enjoy this game. But that’s certainly what it feels like they are trying to force me to do.
I want to be able to play Reinhardt again and while I still do, regardless of what the current meta is, he and the rest of the Tank class needs some desperate help.

Same, man, I played Reinhardt from season 3 to season 6 non-stop, after that the dive comp came back, I stopped playing Overwatch until this season, and then, they added Moira with her orb going through Rein’s shield, Sombra’s hack getting faster, Brigitte 5 seconds stuns with little to no repercussion to her, D.VA destroying his shield with the missiles, Junkrat and Doomfist throwing him around like a ragdoll, etc. He became useless in my eye and in many other peoples eye, Orisa does his job but better, and it’s annoying, he is also my favorite hero.
As I see it, resistant though they’re being, they’re ultimately going to have to buff certain heroes (like Rein) some, if they truly want to change the tank situation.
Even disregarding Winston/D.Va, there’s just been too much power creep from buffing more off-meta heroes (justifiably) and there were a lot of nerfs back in the tank meta. Rein/etc are just plain outdated.

Yes, exactly, Reinhardt’s kit is stuck in 2016, he was a great tank, his shield would take ages to fall, but now he is just a shell of his former-self, I wish Blizzard could see that.

Honestly I think Rein should have gotten the shield-bash not Brig. It makes more sense for him and he has actually weaknesses.

Mmm, I think that mostly what they’re doing is making tank busters actually work. Reaper, Junkrat and Mei always existed and they were always meant to counter tanks, they just never worked.
I agree that it’s super frustrating how much CC they’re putting in the game now, but that’s where you’re meant to switch to Orisa from Rein or Winston. Her pickrate is like a third of Rein’s right now. She needs that one big advantage over Rein in order to have a place in the game.
