I’ve seen it happen too many times, my team’s tank notices that they’ve gotten gold eliminations, sometimes damage as well, and rather than be happy and proud that they’re doing that well, they instead opt to criticize our DPS for underperforming. This has occurred wile we’re both winning and losing, and it’s upsetting to see people do this to their own teammates.
I love playing Rein (though… not so much lately) and quite often get gold elims both winning and losing.
Usually it means we have good healers, or red team doesn’t know to respect the hammer.
There is nothing wrong if the tank players have gold eliminations. However if they have gold damage the dps players do something wrong.
Good healers enable Reinhardt to be aggressive when the moment calls for it. I love me some awesome healers. I keep them safe, and they keep me healed up. No one touches my healers.
That means DPS are not using the, “aiming takes skill,” and the tank and their, “no aim, no brain,” style are out performing such, “skillful,” heroes.
Eliminations say nothing about how good you played,a dva can shoot from 50m away and get eliminations but only doing 3dmg.
A lot of tank players get things wrong though. Just because you play D.va or Winston and spray everything for 30 damage before your dps comes in and needs to clean everything up doesn’t mean you are doing a better dps job than your dps.
However, unless the main tank really popped off, he shouldn’t have gold damage aswell, especially not a Winston for example.
Except for maybe Roadhog or Zarya, if your tank has gold damage, it’s usually an indication your dps are underperforming.
I’m a Mei main. I should strive to have gold elims. But if I have gold damage and our other dps is a Hanzo or a Junkrat, etc., it means the other dps are probably underperforming.
It depends on whether I’ve got 50, or 5.
It is understandable if you are playing Zarya and know what you are doing.
But on other tanks, yeah, something is up.
Gold eliminations mean absolutely nothing. Just a few days ago I took a screenshot while playing Moira, and at some point in that game I had 1 elimination, having dealt 1 (one) point of damage.
Also, I don’t agree on that if tanks have gold damage, DPS are doing something wrong. It can actually also go the other way around - tanks, instead of doing their job, leave their team defenseless and rush into the enemy ranks to deal some damage. I think everything depends on the context, and that’s why medals are a completely useless tool.
I’m going to complain to my DPS. If I have gold damage as Zarya. And I have the least amounts of deaths. Because I shouldn’t have only 3 deaths. And have gold damage. I’m surviving the longest, while being focused. When key parts of my team are dead? That’s the context I judge weather my DPS is doing their job. Now, if the DPS like McCree has 60% acc. Than I kind of expect him to have lower damage. but at least he’s getting good shots.
Winston is in the same spot as Moira when it comes to getting gold elims. If he’s heavily engaged in the fight, his tesla gun is hitting multiple targets, and the forgiving system will recognize that damage as an elimination, even if it isn’t Winston getting the kill.
idk. If I have gold damage as tank, it just makes me wonder what were the dps doing all this time
Frankly If your on certain tanks like Dva or Winston gold elms isn’t that rare. Their weapons put a tiny bit of dmg into everything so get kill credits when you did very little dmg to them.
If you have gold dmg that is another story. Not all the time like Rein often can if the teams are right and Dva or Hog if you have a few good ults and so on, but if your on tank, feel your playing good but not great yet have gold dmg that is not a great sign for your dps.
It’s a team effort, and there are MANY factors that go into how tanks end up with gold elims that you don’t consider in the middle of the firefight. Possibly the DPS are pumping damage into the enemy, and you secure the kill. Maybe they are underperforming, maybe several people on your team have an equal amount of gold eliminations. The possibilities are endless.
If I have gold damage on Winston, I’m going to say something.
I’ll say it…
Tanks and supports do their job much better than dps.
Not all dps. But most of the time the weak link is dps. There’s just so many dps mains trying to 1v6 all the time. Your team groups up except that 1 dps taking the flank and gets punished before your team can even engage. It happens multiple times every round of overwatch.
When I watch OWL you would often see tracers far from there team but waiting in a corner until their team was ready to engage.
In my games they engage before my team is out of spawn and it’s easy pickings for the enemy.
If you’re in a group and the tanks are moving forward, you are wrong if you aren’t following their lead, and are underperforming in multiple ways beyond damage output. Tanks take the lead to create space. The rest follow to occupy that space. Not doing so is bad, meaning your argument doesnt really work, especially not in mobility comps like dive where tanks are supposed to rush in ahead and do damage.
I am talking about damage in particular.
Also as far as we are winning it doesn’t really bother me.
