I don’t mind the 5v5 format
And I don’t think the “damage” in and of itself is the problem
But I think the CC aspect is.
A huge point of 5v5 was letting tanks be the primary CC dealers. Only they never actually really committed to that, and have even back pedaled on that quite a lot.
Ana still has the strongest CC core ability in the game, which IMO she never should’ve kept to begin with going into ow2- and you can still go up against teams where all 5 of the opponents all have some strong CC.
So you’re regularly being knocked over, slept, booped, stunned, hindered, hacked, etc.
And while I’m sure the grand idea was “man these will be great tools against flankers and things!”- the reality is that 9 times out of 10 the tank is the east target to hit, so you do.
Ya damage can be a problem- such as with things like “tank busters” which never should’ve been a thing once we went to role queue as far as I’m concerned (Imo all tanks should have at least a little armor to mitigate shotgun damage for at least a shot or two to help alleviate this when they’re at full health)-
But I’d say the constant value of dumping CC from every angle into the tank is a huge sort of why it feels bad to play tank.
When your role is “eat CC so my team mates don’t and pray my supports heal me enough so that I don’t die” as it’s bench mark for effectiveness, it’s difficult to feel like you have much agency over a match or fun while doing it.
