Tank queue is once again the fastest

How did we get back to the place where queuing for all roles gets you tank most of the time? I had actually gotten used to it being a support queue, but now it’s back to being a tank queue. Even with only one tank, we’re here again.

Most of the time queues for all roles are <1 minute. At least in Quickplay.

Huh.
It’s as if tanks were never a popular role to begin with and between the pressure to play well and the nerfs most tanks beyond queen have gotten overtime, people would rather play the roles where there’s less pressure and more ability to make plays.

I think the perspective on tanks as a whole has shifted from them being very strong to realizing they’re actually not that strong to figuring out how quickly they die with a stun and some focus fire. People don’t ever want to play the punching bag unless the punching bag can punch back and lots of that killing power has been taken away.

I always get tank too. Not surprised though.

Tanks lead the way. Tanks take the blame. It’s a hard role, definitely not for everyone.

Well, many people that did play tank dislike solo tanking… That is actually part of the issue with the role.

I’m not surprised. I feel like if you’re going to main tank, then you practically require a diverse pool of heros or you face the triple role counter picks.

Clearly this is because of the Will Ramos nerfs. The effect was just a late reverberation because all the PvE kids were inflating our numbers. Obviously.

Tank rely on supp
Most annoying role when you are against zen ana and you get moira weaver
Free win if you reverse that

I’m sick of having fun on queen and the other tank switch to zarya, so i pick rein, so he pick orisa…

Tired of being the only one trying to kill mercy pharah, cancel rez and rushing widow.

Support are more fun, i pick zen put heal orbs on tank and just kill people
Any dps hero can be effective if you play correctly

It’s different for everyone. All queues, not just tank, are under a minute for me.

Imma get some flak for this, but whatever:

2 big reasons.

1- Ana and Zen make tanking straight up miserable.

2- Tank IMO feels by far, the most “rock paper scissors” of the roles. If youre doing good on tank, your enemy will immediately swap to counter you. Usually their tank, but their DPS as well.

Even with a diverse tank pool, it’s possible for the enemy to counter pick several tanks at once if they coordinate even a little bit.

There is a third reason actually…

Tank is solo now, so every mistake that tank makes is on that one person and there is no one to cover that…

Also, people still expect tank to both hold the front and peel for the back. Which is just impossible now.

So that would make 4 big reasons actually (-;

couldn’t be me

unless you are ram with nano

when i play flex it gives me a combination of support and dmg most of the time.

Usually when I queue all roles, I’m landing in Support most often. Really depends on your region. I imagine West Coast sees a fewer Tanks players compared to Central and East Coastal regions.

Probably region, time of day, and MMR for each role too I imagine. I was getting support most of the time. Now I’m getting tank most of the time. But 3 seasons ago tank queues were much longer than support queues and now they are roughly the same and now often shorter even. But since you only need 1 tank and 2 supports this really shouldn’t be unless something is wrong.

Right now, looking at it; Unranked gives me Bonus Experince for playing Support and Ranked gives me Bonus Experience for playing Tank.

So, yeah. Central time zone here.

Nothing changed about the role except for the role is now played alone.

Because tanks are, and will always be the least popular role. The strat for the tank role should be to appeal to the tank players you have now, since those are the people who actually want to tank. Instead, they spent a long time telling us to get lost, and trying to get Damage players to queue for tank, but that could never work.

Played 5 games on all role queue in gold (all 5 times I’ve got tank role)
4 of them lost because of 1 supp or 1 dps diff. Queue times were 1 min tank, 4 min dps and 1 min supp.

I’ve personally stopped playing tank because:

  1. Hard counters - Under 6v6 it was much easier to play into your counters since you could play off of your tank partner. Now if you are getting countered you just can’t take or hold space. With tanks being the main way a team takes space, countering them is very valuable and with only one it makes the role feel way more Rock Paper Scissors than the other roles.
  2. Rock Paper Scissors rotation - Because of the above dynamic where countering a tank is exceptionally powerful it leads to a very RPS game loop where you are rotating through the tanks every couple fights or you get stuck on one of the more versatile tanks that doesn’t have any particularly hard counters like Ramattra. Right now isn’t as bad, but the Zar/Winston/D.Va swapfest of S1 into the Hog/Doom/Orisa swapfest of S2 was miserable.
  3. Hero Pools - Because of the above reasons it makes it hard to really learn a tank I want to play, and instead am forced to learn the new meta heroes every season or else be at a massive disadvantage in the RPS match, or if I try to play off-meta just get evaporated by my counters. It puts too much pressure on one player to learn too many heroes.
  4. Ana/Zen - Again, not having a second tank to play off of means being perma-discorded and having every single sleep and bionade thrown your way.

I was a tank main back in OW1, with most of my hours on D.Va but I just avoid the role now.
