Tank Q : can join and leave 3 games within 1 minute!

I’m having a little session on tank since I’ve only got an hour to play. I skip a lot of maps because they are not fun (flash, push, any widow map). As soon as I join the game I pull up the team and add one of them as an avoid and leave - usually within first 6-7 seconds.

When you go into you avoid list each item tells you how long ago it was added. It starts with “A moment ago” then “1 minute ago”.

What I noticed tonight is that I can add 3 avoids in 3 games that I insta-leave and when going in to remove one after the 3rd all of them are still “A moment ago”.

What does this mean? It means I am queued into 3 tank games within 1 minute. Including leaving time of about 20s total, I get pulled into 3 games within 40s. That’s about 13s queue time including the loading screen of the map.

Has tanking go so few players now that queue time averages 13s even at 11:30pm? Wow! That is pretty sad.

I can’t wait til consequence meets action.

The entire point of queueing tank is that I can get into a game instantaneously. Why would I lobby shop and go through the effort of avoiding players? Definitely a waste of my time.

I also highly suspect that dodging gives you worse teammates on average. I tried that back in the day when I needed last minute wins for the Lego Bastion skin and as the timer was ticking I was forced to play out some painful games. I never did unlock that skin. It could be a conspiracy, but it would make sense given how most leavers are serial leavers to the point where Blizzard felt compelled to implement these penalties.

Sounds like OP the serial leaver should be playing arcade or custom games instead of QP. Cause I thought that the reason to have a game is to… checks notes… actually play it. :man_shrugging:

Blizz allows leaving during the assembly phase. This is deliberate on their part - they have mentioned it.

And I do play arcade during peak times when you can get a game, but much of the time in EU you have to wait 3-6 mins for a game and you see the same people every 2nd game so it’s not much fun. I can get into a tank QP game on a map I like within 1-2 minutes.

Maybe because people keep leaving in the assembly phase

Doubt it since 95% of the time I join the very start of the game at the start of the assembly timer.

And no one else does this?

Interesting. I might be tempted to try this just to see how long it takes to get King Row.

I swear King’s Row must be weighted so low on the map pool, I get most maps 2-3 times before I see a single King’s Row.

meanwhile support queue:

edit: found a match at 20mins.

Seems like it’s more fun to go support and pick ana or zen and make tanking miserable than it is to be the miserable tank. Go figure!!

Oh, ive tracked my games for a while now.

after roughly 300 games the spread of hybrid maps has so far been:

Blizzard World 17
Eichenwalde 15
Hollywood 13
Kings Row 12
Midtown 17
Numbani 10
Paraiso 9

I tracked mine a while ago when I was playing more. I tracked 80 games, then 80 games again. There were some maps that were consistently a little higher than the others in each of the 80 games, but the 2 sets of results did not match that much.

I did notice that KoTH maps were generally lower down the pick-rate. But maps like King’s Row and other popular ones were just sitting in the middle.

The one that stood out as being top in the first 80 and 2nd or 3rd in the second was colloseo.

I had it all in a spreadsheet (yes, I am that sad) so maybe can dig it out.

afaik they first randomize the game mode, and then the map in that game mode.
the modes are probably weighted by the amount of maps they have.

atm the spread of modes is for me:
koth - 90 games (26%)
push - 44 games (12%)
flashpoint - 25 games (7%)
escort - 91 games (26%)
hybrid - 93 games (27%)

I consider this one of the benefits of playing tank.

If I’m going to play tank, I’m sure as heck going to do it on a map / mode I at least enjoy.

leaving games at the setup phase is completely fine imo.
Though, the backfill may often be mismatched - blizzard should be a bit more strict on backfills if someone leaves at the setup.

Ya this is all I ever do. I never leave mid match.

In my years playing i can count on one hand with fingers to spare the amount of times I’ve left a game mid match because the experience was frustrating (and usually this will involve team mates actively throwing. A support that actively refuses to heal. A mei that’s intentionally blocking teams with wall. Etc). I’m not a “wah if I’m not winning I’m not having fun :<“ kind of guy.

I just get tired of playing defense for the 8th time in a row.

Yeah, that can also feel tedious. They should have some forced cutoff at that.
or better yet, just put comp ruleset into payload maps, but i guess that wont happen

Do you one-trick?

Its hard to enjoy OW anymore without being flexible. Especially as a tank.

Just my opinion.

50/50.

I know I’m known to be a Doomfist 1 trick on these forums, but that’s genuinely only right half the time.

When I play Doomfist, I tend to 1 trick him.

The other half the time I’ll play “whatever” I feel works best.
