I saw a T500 tank main streaming Unranked to GM No-shield Reinhardt, he was in some Master4 (which actually put him in T500, but his goal was still GM), and one of the enemies swapped to Bastion. He said it was a laughable pick, as Bastion can not kill fast enough through the armor buff.
He didn’t even use shield to defeat him and his team.
Overwatch has taken a ridicilous direction with turning Tanks into superheroes. It is really, really unfun to play against, and I suspect also as.
The other team didn’t have a tank/“superhero”?
That was the whole idea behind the armor changes, nerf the damage of small damage projectiles like bastion, tracer, sombra, soldier, reaper, dva and hog for example.
The projectiles with bigger damage like widow, pharah, junkrat, mei alt fire, sojourn alt fire and such, had their effectiveness against armor buffed. Because they lose a set amount of dmg per projectile, instead of the 50% that the smaller projectiles do.
So you were watching a Smurf.
And yes, if you get right up in a tanks face, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Now if we had 6v6 again, we could run double tanks and properly balance them without making them quite as overwhelming as they are.
I have no sympathy for bastion.
As dumb as certain tanks are right now, you also shouldn’t be able to just go bastion and microwave tanks just because you feel like it.
Yes, it was a smurf who handicapped himself severely, playing in Master, where the players are already very good. The difference between a Master and a top player is not too crazy.
IMO there is a severe problem with how the game is designed. If the enemy tank is weaker, you will have so much power as the good tank, that you will trash the enemy team, no matter what they do.
Yes, and obviously lost the tank battle, leaving the rest of the team with no means to fight the remaining Godzilla, not even with a historical tank buster.
The example you gave was a smurf exposing how a good player/team can overtake another. Which is as it should be. I’m not seeing your complaint of the ridiculousness of tanks being overtuned here unfortunately.
They kind of did. A T500 player playing wrong purposefully shouldn’t be able to mitigate all punish against a Masters player, simply because there are certain elements (Armor) in the game to reduce and in many cases outright remove the element of risk. “Play4you” passive elements. I believe that is the point they’re trying to make.

This situation was then 5v4. Continually losing to rein not using a shield, sounds like there was no Ana or Zen on the field. Which would have been means to fight a shield-less Rein.
I didn’t watch this streamer (nor will I), but I doubt he did this solo que. Bet he had a competent team with him, bailing him out against an uncoordinated team.
Even pre armor changes bastion just isn’t good you need speed for turret form to actually catch a tank out
I am not a tank player and I have barely played Bastion since OW1, so I can only report what this tank main said, and he said that Bastion was bad because he couldn’t do much against the buffed armor.
It’s a good thing all fights are a 1v1. No telling what would have happened to this cat if the other 4 players were helping the Bastion.
Because damage boosts exists, Bastions base damage has to be low and laughable.
Bastion has been low-key countered by tanks the entire time. There was a short period when turret crits could take out charging Rein, but Blizzard in cases like that is quick to react. Garbage tier heroes staying garbage is top priority.
I mean you get top 500 for completing your placements on tanks. Does not say much, it’s a participation bracket for the one willing suffer through the boring gameplay. Even being ridiculously overtuned throwing anything about balance and good game design out the window no one plays them.
Like the devs know they super mega broken, but it is their last ditch effort trying to make them popular, but no one still cares about getting a rank on a role no one cares about. If we had one bracket and one ladder people would fight over playing rank right now.
Hopefully this streaming gets rightfully banned for smurfing.

He does UNRANKED - this means he got the account, did his placements and off he goes. Is T500 players not allowed to get new accounts?
Then he plays gimped in Master, putting himself closer to a level playing field (actually he lost the next two games and it looked very hard, so I don’t think he can do it - Master players know what they are doing).
