Tank is miserable, and theres how to fix them

The tank queue problem isnt because tanks are UP, they are Overpowered, but it mens nothing when you have no fun playing

And the problem with fun in tanking is that if you do well the entire enemy team will pick to counter you, and your own team can counter you like bad supports synergies with the tank

When you remove counter picking from the equation you can actually balance tanks without 100 passives and not 800 health

What would i do to fix it:

D. Va:
matrix: blocks 50% of beam damage, now only lasts 2.5s
Self explosion: now ignores barriers and damage reductions

Doomfist:
block: makes doomfist immune to cc and debuffs for the duration
Meteor strike: slow and damage scaling increased by 50%

Junker queen:
shout: cleanses queen on activation
Knife: now pierces shields, and DM’s
Passive: now has a slow resistance of 50%

Mauga:
80% of health turned into armour
Berserker passive: now gain overhealth from
dealing critical damage to anything, including shields, mei walls, LW tree etc
cardiac overdrive: cleanses mauga on activation
Boop reduction increased

Orisa:
javelin spin: reduces beam damage by 50%
Ultimate: area increased by 20%, and now orisa is immune to CC and debuffs while channeling

Ramatraa:
nemesis form: pummeling throught shields damage reduced by 50%, now also transform most of ram health into armour
Blocking now also make rammatra immune to CC and debuffs from the front
vortex: launches ramatraa upward if he steps on it and jump
Annihilation:now also ignore shields

Reinhard:
charge: now pressing jump mid charge cancel the skill and launch reinhardt diagonally, like soujorn
Shield: speed penalty removed
Boop reduction increased

Roadhog:
pig pen can now be manually activated, even if hard CC’ed, cleanses hog if he is in the area when triggered, and give him CC and debuff immunity for 3s
Boop reduction increased
Passive: Now has a slow resistance of 50%

Sigma:
grasp: cooldown reduced to 10s, now reduce beam damage by 50%
Accretion: now pierce shields

Winston:
80% of health converted into armour
Leap: cooldown increased by 2 seconds
Boop reduction increased

Wrecking ball:
adaptative shields: can now be used while hard CC’ed, now also cleanses hammond if press the button again and makes him immune to CC and debuffs for the last of the duration
Minefield: cant be EMP’ed, doesnt trigger inspire
Boop reduction increased

Zarya:
RMB:consumes 50 ammo, now pierce shields and self knoback vertically increased by 300%

-Changes to tank counters to shift power:-

Reaper:
Accuracy increased
Movement of wraith form increased by 25%

Bastion:
Character model and hitbox reduced by 15%
Turret form: accuracy increased,
Grenade: self damage removed
Ultimate: reverted to pre rework

Torb:
Shift doesnt grant speed anymore, RMB has accuracy increased

Junkrat:
Trap doesnt immobilize tanks anymore, instead it applies a 70% slow for 3s for them

Sombra:
Hack on tanks now just silence for 0.5s

Mei:
LMB: reach decreased by 50%, now deals 30 more dps, slow increase and decrease are instantaneous, and when used below mei giver her 30% speed increase
Wall: now has 200 health
Blizzard: cant be eaten or EMP’ed, projectile speed increased by 20%

Symmetra:
Beam: now always the third level, reach decreased by half
Teleport: now cant me damaged, now sym has a 2s cooldown before tping again

Zeny:
Now orb of destruction only has a cooldown on tanks, increased the cooldown to 8s

-And now you can actually reduce tank health or damage if needed, just didnt put because obviously it needs testing

Well, 6v6 wont get rid of tank weaknesses, so if you’re d.va and they have sym and zarya you are cooked

but your team can have sigma or rein to support dva’s weakness. That’s why 6v6 works coz each role has another member to support and compliment.
Like Ana Brig combo. Each help the other and cover for their weakness.

The only true way to remove counter picking is to remove the ability to change heroes constantly. Which is the one thing that separates ow from competitors besides better heroes.

Countering is part of this game. 5v5 just exasperates the issue.

What change makes them hard shield counter?
Its more of shield countering d.vaa ult thats is a horrible ult

so many gigabuffs, makes me wonder if these are alec dawson’s scrapped plans

You can nerf their health or damage

why should all the changes just ignore barriers? Kind of defeats the purpose of barriers

Not all the changes ignores barriers, and barriers counters a lot of tanks, imagine a rein getting to sigma face and he can do nothing to stop rein

Or imagine reinhardt in a high ground and JQ just cant do nothing against him

Zarya is because its well known that barriers are zarya weakness, and i even make only RMB pierce

so many abilities dont need barrier piercing, its stupid that i can throw a jq knife into a barrier, and pull out some random support from behind the shield, it makes reins shield completely useless if accretion and dva bomb ignores it

in other news you list of viable tank heroes becomes “checks notes” two!

Do tanks having a habit of covering each other’s and their teams’ weaknesses near completely. And lead to RPG team builds that are just 100% better then everything else in the game!

Literally better than the only checknote right now is countering the enemy tank

Pfft high level play is more about setting up your tank with support into a propper team comp.

Where like you can play around counters not only in the tank pick, but by how well your dps/supports synergies as well.

That and you have plenty of hereos int he DPS/Support roles that can counter tanks just the same.


Also yes this is how OW is meant to be played, this how it is designed. It was never meant to go stale into one or two sets of match ups. Do heroes counterbalancing each other.

Ha you wish, im literally friends with a GM T500 onetrick and in literally ALL his matches the enemy just swaps to counter him, sure he can outplay them but doesnt mean it isnt tedious nor fun

Just because its designed that way doesnt mean is GOOD GAME DESIGN

Because if so “ya” that’s going to be a bad time.

I mean this is how the beloved game tf2 is designed my guy. And is a common design philosphy that’s used in loads of games. Be it basic weapon type match-ups or the elemental counter wheel 1000+ rpg’s are built on.

The way you fix tank is to bring back 6v6 or prevent swapping mid match. Nothing else really addresses the issue but the devs don’t want 6v6 and half of the playerbase isn’t ready for actually needing to outplay people instead of crutching on pressing H :man_shrugging:

Here the easiest way to fix tank.

Shrink hitbox by %20. Give more meaningful range.

Small = Now…. You will no longer

  1. Be half the size of the map
  2. Fall over to spread hero’s (reaper bastian tracer ect.
  3. Be significant harder to headshot
  4. No longer create massive cover (mauga is the size of kings row first point statute. It would be nice to see and shoot ppl behind them)
  5. #4 combined with being smaller means ppl can shoot other things and tank is less APPEALING to shoot.
  6. Require less healing

Half the problem with tank is being SO EASY TO HIT. WHILE ALSO BEING IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO FIGHT due to size and how strong they are.

I feel like the issue isn’t about UP or OP. It’s that many tanks are hard countered with no options BUT to swap. If I play Roadhog for example, Ana single handedly just ends him. Being anti’d means death, and there’s really nothing to do about it.

If I play Ramatra and the other team has Reaper or Ana? Game over. Getting slept is death, and Reaper just eats him. Try playing Rein into Pharah, Echo, or Mei. They’ll either ignore you can blast your team, or wall you off and you’ll largely just die.

Play Mauga into Ana or Dva. Getting anti’d or having your healing options eaten by DM and you just die.

But now, if you had a second tank… being anti’d? Zarya’s got you! Slept? Dva can make you virtually unkillable for the duration. A second tank to make you not the sole target is HUGE.
