Tank feels utterly helpless in soloqueue

I have never felt less impactful in this game as tank. It is utterly thankless.

  • My massive body is getting hit by massive bullets.
  • I cannot kill anything myself with even a speck of healing on it.
  • I have to glue myself to cover or risk being burned down by the new DPS passive.
  • I now not only have to counter-pick the other tank, I also have to counter-pick the DPS passive itself.

I am an extra large DPS with average damage and a modestly complicated kit.

I cannot take space if dps is simply alive on the other side.

I exist to pop out of cover, take a few shots, walk a few feet. Then retreat behind cover while I wait for a debuff with no visual feedback to wear off, hoping to god that their tank over-extends first.

Tank wasn’t really fun in 5v5, but now I have even MORE responsibility to counter-pick wisely and still only have a quarter of the roster to do it with.

I want to just never queue tank, but weekly challenges don’t complete themselves. “All Rolls” still is just “Tank Queue”…

Not going to lie, I cannot believe how easy my Hog, Mauga, and Junkerqueen games were. It was probably just luck to actually get good teammates for once, but they felt fine…

more anti healing maybe isnt a good idea but then yea w/o it and everyone having more health maybe isnt either.

they just made everything worse i guess but they did say they would do this more often. change things up drastically so who knows what happens next time

:man_shrugging:

I abandoned Role Queue dailies and don’t ever plan to touch tank. It was bad even in s8. DPS dailies are also doable and sometimes I just do 1 or 2 and thats it. Or you can simply play 2 games to get missing 3000 XP

More interested in the weeklies, as that equates to tangible currency. XP in this game is functionally meaningless.

Based on Tanks of what counters what… Orisa counters all but Brawlfist (Doomfist but no spicy moves/tech cuz Rollout/Dive Doomfist is literally unplayable), although specific cases could be countered through right CD timing as Mauga can counter Orisa with healing aura if the Orisa uses both defensive CDs.

Winston feels pretty good and doom aside from his new super weird bugs has damage that’s mostly on point.

I think most Tanks just need damage buffs that put their TTK slightly lower then their old TTK’s like winston (his leap, and railgun weren’t buffed afaik making his burst slightly lower…)

Doesn’t feel like Tanks counter anything except other Tanks. But now it feels like just about everything counters Tanks.

DPS might counter each other in a few cases causing the need to swap, but you can maybe get by with some quick mobility. Supports have to worry about quite a few DPS, but can largely work around positioning and not swap.

As Tank my brain is constantly pingponging with which Tank they have that I need to counter, what DPS counters me, what Supports counter me, what Tanks can negate the new passive. Swap! Swap! Swap! You only have 5 minutes until overtime!

Its too much, its stressful, and all the pressure is on you to be the center of the team.

And now its basically the whole roster making your life miserable. There isn’t anything left to swap to that’s safe.

It feels like I’m hiding for half of the match waiting for my enormous healthpool to slowly fill back up after being shot down in a short few seconds.

whenever i play dps / sup i face heroes i love to see as a tank.

whenever i am tank i would sell my soul and my mother to get dps or support.

if only i could stop the enemy from ruining tanking by going like one of 2 heroes you need 3 ranks better dps to deal with. sad game. but hey good times, good memories.

Defensive abilities help here, as well as taking cover.

If I’m dealing with really attentive Supports, it is true, as Junker Queen, I’ll have trouble killing things on my own. That’s been an issue since before this patch; but there’s some workarounds like targeting Supports or getting them to burn and bait some cooldowns before committing to kills.

Haven’t had this problem; have had more issues with my Supports not healing me or their team, though.

Never had this issue.

Stop retreating. Learn to advance safely. Plenty of ways to do that on all sorts of maps.

My JQ games have been a hit and miss. Sometimes I get some good attentive Supports that I don’t outheal. Other times, I’m forced to switch because my self-regeneration or adrenaline rush is outhealing them and I can’t get a safe approach or angle on the enemy team.

Roadhog, same as before. With the recent changes to his healing rate, its a little harder to survive; but it’s still easy to pull into cover, count to two, and then TAB to full.

Mauga, haven’t tried, not the biggest fan of how simple he generally is.

I haven’t been able to do much of anything with Winston since my Supports refuse to heal. Or keep waiting until the last minute to jump in and try basic healing… when I’m less than 200 health.

Generally, I just don’t have issues playing Tank. It’s usually some bad supports that refuse to heal.

Thankfully that Self-regeneration passive helps me on Damage-role, but it feels less effective on Tanks because you have to frontline a lot of stuff and your health is fairly massive.
