Take into account who uses voice chat in ranked

I’m just tired of playing competitive in games where my team refuses to communicate, please, take the usage of voice chat into account to match my with my teammates

don’t use text and voice chat or you will be suspended soon

every time i turn it on i instlantly regret it - all i hear is slurs and people blaming each other , why would i listen to that?

i would turn on voice chat if I was above GM rank, cause then I’d be listening to good players who know how to play well.
but here’s the thing… im not in those ranks, what’s the point of listening to bad players? it’s better to mute text+voice and focus on improving my own game, a gold player telling me how to play or me telling a gold player how to play is a waste of time.

this too, not only are players bad down in my ranks but they also only blame.

This is true and underestimated by the majority of people. Competitive communication is something I’m likely going to be a lot better at than the average player at my rank, based on my history in other competitive games (namely WoW arenas, have been very close to rank 1), even though my aim sucks in FPS games.

It is a complete waste of time for me to try and explain to someone why they need to switch targets or position better, they always think they’re right, and are usually completely wrong. I came up recently with the idea of turning my inbound voice chat volume to zero, joining open mic (push to talk causes problems for me lol), and just telling people in text chat to join VC if they want callouts in text at the start - noting that I won’t be able to hear them… we’ll see if it works, if I can stand to play anymore.

If people can’t derail me since I can’t hear them, and I can just talk over them it might be a good solution.

90% of the time people that use voice chat are just telling everyone else how to play the game and also flopping themselves. Most commonly some DPS off in Africa on a failed flank saying WHERE ARE MY HEALS as if 1 support should just follow them into poor positioning all game and risk dying themselves.

I occasionally get into a game where everyone’s communicating positively and productively but it’s rare. Usually when this happens I request a group requeue even if we don’t win because a group that is communicating from game to game is usually improving, as I don’t play in GM i find improvement more important than short lived victories.

I like the people who only use it to tell you if an enemy is 1hp or if they used a big cooldown or if someone is flanking or trying to c9 us. Not the guys trying to be the coach and plan everything and say what ults to use and not use every fight.

The game is too unpredictable and happens at too fast of a pace for that, even in plat. Not to mention they also have terrible ideas most of the time and usually have the least game sense out of anyone on the team.

99 % of my chat and text experience:
-insults
-blame
-harassment
-microaggression
-stuff that has nothing to do with the game itself
-micromanagement

I can’t remember one time when the chat was just with more than 50 % of communication just gameplay related with helpful stuff like “Tracer no recall”. Literally every time something went wrong, you had instantly the blaming like “WHY DID YOU DO XYZ???” or even much worse and in 90 % of those cases the whole game is basically lost.

Overwatch 2 doesn’t teach you how to communicate in the right way, so you actually have to blame Blizzard for this toxic environment. The only times you should use voice com is if you have anything meaningful to say in regards to winning the game, like “I’m going to dive in in 5 seconds” and that’s it.
While you maybe think it’s “fun” or “social” to just have small talk, competitive is the wrong place for it. It’s simply that only because you think it’s small talk, it’s maybe not for others and if someone is queueing for competitive this person clearly says “I want to compete” and not to have a random small talk.

It’s worse to have bad communication than no communication and until Blizzard makes sure that the players know the right communication, it’s literally impossible to enjoy voice coms.

Just look at the biggest Overwatch streamer and you realize that it’s basically just clickbait insulting what they are doing. It’s insanely toxic and Blizzard just let this slide. So now players think that it’s fine to trash talk your tank if he is hard diffed, but totally forget that every sane person will just mute voice chat forever if the communication is just toxic streamer clickbait “communication”.

I don’t want to hear the stinkies and scummies that play this game.

I will elaborate actually. Since my prior post will probably get removed. My rank has improved since I disabled voice chat. As a tank too, I’m ranking up while being unable to call plays. Cool huh?

I think a big part of it is not giving the toxics a target. If you’re not in voice the worst they can do is type, and they can’t even be certain you read it since you might have text chat disabled. Cause if you defend yourself, they get tilted even worse and that’s the end of the game. If you’re silent, maybe they get over it and figure out how to beat the Ashe that’s diffing them enough times that your team can win the fight.

Today I had a match, I was Mauga with 2 deaths, enemy tank had 9. Literally had a Dva/Sig/Zarya on the ropes and panic swapping to try and deal with me. DPS types in chat, “swap Mauga not working”. This player had 10 deaths. In the past I would have called them out to defend myself. But I just ignore, keep playing my game, out cycle their tank, work with my Kiri who was playing as a teammate. Ez win, no chat required.

Wow. I’m all 3? That’s impressive.

Having never done any of the 3, it’s an interesting accusation. I guess a random on the internet really bothers you

Blizzard has harbored a oversensitive community across all of their games. People don’t want to own up to not playing well. So they just turn off all forms of chat so they can play however they like, even if it is detrimental to the team effort to win. But then it also goes the other way. If you talk the people with thin skin that use chat will report you for everything. It’s really a doubled edged sword.

Also I DO NOT condone truly toxic things like racism, sexism, transphobia and so on. Asking your teammates to switch characters because they are getting hard countered is not toxic despite what some think.
