Not if the support also misses those 10. You said about supports having leniency on mistakes but at same time damage role often can kill even by accident. That’s was my point.
Folks climb with one tricks because of it. Isn’t about mechannical skill or effort. Is just low risk high reward.
Pretty much the only support that could deal effectively with her. Other than that only damage role or winston/d.va/ball.
Moira would be riskier because her mobility is circunstancial and if she burn the fade to jump she becomes really predictable. Overall lethality of moira isn’t great and the strength on her sustain are completely negated from widow hs. She isn’t a counter for widow, while she can annoy it and sometimes kill it, will not be effectively a counter like Lúcio would be if both are on the same rank.
Her spread is small enough to her actually do hs, also while several tracer have fear to get close which would reflect on less overall damage would also be riskier to play like that. That’s why most folks avoid to play with tracer and eventually play outside her effective range. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the lethality for it, just don’t play well with her.
Equally is a bit of stretch. If you consider both playing poorly, sure. But both playing how supposed be, not. If both are good also would be not.
While I get that majority play badly, is a player’s fault not hero design/purpose.
If you put the same odds or percentile on each side, damage role will almost always win, with the exception of mei, bap, zen and sym. Some cases pharah but her ability to keep distance works on her favor.
Not when exist heroes that supports effectively can’t deal like sombra, pharah or echo. You can damage them with bap, zen, moira or ana, but you would be outplayed if they play correctly or have same rank as yours and play correctly.
When sombra only has 2 counters (hanzo and widow). When mostly hitscans can effectively deal against pharah and echo. You already are left with some match ups from offense that doesn’t give supports tools to effectively work.
You would depend on your team on those cases. So pretty much your hands are tied on situations like those. That’s why dive, poke and flanks are overperforming right now. Not because players playing with are good, but because their perks favors more them than it’s foes, which are supports.
While the other points I would agree with you, B and C are purely BS. Even today there’s no tank or support which effectively counters sombra and only hanzo, widow and another sombra counters her. Funny tho, damage role has the tool to counter her and nobody else has.
Reaper you can deal somewhat fine against it, but at risk of getting oneshotted.
Tracer the same as reaper
Echo and pharah you would have a bad time unless they play poorly.
So, while adapt the way you play with certain character or switch to something else. There’s no exactly counter on support role against several damage heroes, because at end of the day supports aren’t supposed to be strong against them to begin with.
You can stall, sometimes kill. But there are some match-ups that you effectively just stall because your odds of killing are minimal and the odds of dying are really high.
Like I said, I know what you’re trying to say. Folks should grow up and learn how to play. At same time you fail to realize that each support has limitations and in the entire cast there are foes they simply can’t handle. The most near to “work” not counter, sombra would be ana and moira and both would rely on luck or really low latency to do so.
Pharah and echo would be similar but supports would have more room to work. The problem still in there, you only solve that if somebody keeps eye on you.
That’s why on OW1, often were the job of one of tanks or one of the damage role or even another support. Having the team more split and one less tank you effectively cut the “safe” space created to a battlefield with some covers, limiting the options and the exposure times.
Supports always had to keep an eye on their surroundings and tabs on their team. But could always count with someone on their team to cover for them, either another sup, one of tanks or one of the damage.
Right now if the one of the damage don’t do it, they’re by themselves. Because tanks wouldn’t be wise to leave the opposite tank unchecked and damage are often on the opposite side focusing on the enemy team supports leaving basically 3 battles. One having damage vs supports, supports vs damage and tank vs tank
Supports in the middle between fights of tanks and trying to keep folks alive while being pressured from damage.
Unless the damage role is really bad, supports wouldn’t have pressure. But if they’re good enough, not even really playing well or like a high rank, just do what supposed to do. The supports life would become really complicated.
Would create a lack of healing, high death count and teammates claiming they’re doing their jobs and ask support to grow up. But at same time the winner from tank clash and support/damage clash would battle yo each other without support or would simple regroup and recordinate the strategy.
Ending mostly to a situation that, supports would be often being pressured in disavantageous odds, tanks would clash against each other and damage role would duel each other after supports dying
That’s why, folks didn’t enjoyed playing supports, because at end of the day they were simply playing to save themselves with worst tools to do that. Tanks at least have better tools for that even if there’s only one of them.
