Symmetra's Shield Generator

Would it be a good idea to bring Symmetra’s shield generator back as an alternative to the teleporter? Obviously not anything TOO game-changing, but maybe something small like 25 or 50 (if not too much) increased health?

Symmetra’s very original tool kit had an ability which simply was Press E to give +25 Shield Points to an ally. It had no cooldown and the shields stayed on the ally unless that ally was fully eliminated (or changed heroes).

The ability was removed, more or less because it felt not very impactful and more of a routine.

I feel like Symmetra should be made back into a support hero. To support doesn’t necessarily mean to heal, so what if instead of healing she supported by making shields, teleporters, and turrets for her team? Oh, and a giant shield as an ultimate.

Technically that was the original idea of her kit when she was a Support.

I miss the good ol’ days when I didn’t have to aim as her :sob:

How much shields did a shield generator give a person? I thought it was 50 shields.

+75 in a radius of 100 meters from the placement of the generator.

That did have an impact which often forced teams to focus on the shield generator before they could focus the objective.

Honestly playing the many iterations of Symmetra, her being a DPS is the most fitting for her, changing her to a support where she actually heals (and in an impact way) would require such a change that you may as well just release a new hero.

Although I see no issue in giving her abilities that can give shield to allies as a DPS, I like the idea of hybrid DPS characters like Soldier who can heal his teammates, I’ve never once found Soldier’s heal pad to be problematic in any means

I would agree with this assessment. Does Symmetra need some love from the devs? Yes. Does she need to be a support? No.

Shields don’t make up for healing. The enemy has two healing supports, your team only has one with a generator that can be destroyed. You’d be giving the second support overwork by trying to keep everyone up.

While I don’t want to see it on Sym, I did like the sound of healing turrets way back when

Yet they give it to brig when she was released with even more hp buffer, the hipocrisiy of blizzard dev team sometimes

Also it does have cooldown at first and it gave 75 shield but they nerfed it to 25 thus it not having a cooldown as a compensation i guess

Brig’s original repair packs doesn’t let the Armor Points stay on indefinitely (they fell off after a bit), so there was a bit of upkeep involved. Today Brigitte can only give armor to heroes through Rally (and remains the only ability which adds extra armor to any heroes).

Release Brig’s packs stayed on until they were shot down. Which was a problem because Sym shield, Torb armor AND Brig’s packs made Zen pretty much a tank.

Rally didn’t decay.

I remember it not decaying before they nerfed it to it decaying overtime or is my memeroy wrong?

Even so its still a slap in the face to symm supportive ability when they can just give her a similar treatment/improvement but they removed it and they give an improved version to new heroes, similar to exp barrier of sigma.

No, they always were removed after 4 seconds.

Rally armor was the one that didn’t decayed at launch.

No no… Rally bonus AP stayed on indenitely unless destroyed (and still does in her kit today), Repair pack armor did drop after a brief amount of time.
