Hey I know it surely won’t change the decision the OW Team will surely do. But I will share it anyway !!
So everyone is saying that Symmetra will be moved to defense with her rework. Which is in my opinion really stupid if they still buff her TP !! And by doing this they will close forever the possibility of Support to provide utility without being “Healer” most of the games with classes have Supports who doesn’t heal but still act like Supports and are considerate as Supports.
And keeping her TP even as a normal ability like the rez won’t change the fact that is and will still a Support thing and it will be worse if her ultimate is always a Shield Generator… It would be like “Yeah Yeah we put her on Defense like that you won’t cry anymore for having only 1 Support who heals if Symmetra is picked” ! I know Supports who heals are important in this game but why doesn’t give a real chance to other Supports who can’t heal… I still think if Symmetra had the possibility to boost shields or work around it instead of throwing a Barrier (which is usefull but not that much), it would really makes her more useful as a Hero and considerate more as a Support helping her team without her to be a Healer…
So what do you think about my point of view ?

If you have a sym on your team and you don’t have 2 other healers you are putting yourself at a HUGE disadvantage, she is not a support and she cannot fill the spot of a support player, she has always been a defense hero, moving her to that category would probably come with an increase in damage or in the way it’s dished out, keeping her as a support will always mean she’s gated by mechanics inherent to those characters who do have a healing ability

For me she has everything to be and stay supports,
she has distractions slows visions shield or TP and Barrier.
And that’s why I talked about the rework of her being able to boost or work around shield or Barrier which will gives her more utility as a Support !
Because nulify dmg is still a “healing” things !
Do you understand my point ?
I do but I disagree, sadly the support role on this game is completely defined by the ability to heal in a timely manner, symmetra does heal with shield gen but it’s not inmediate
By that same logic you are using we could state that Mei is also a support since she can effectively slow and block vision or paths and Torb can give armor to his whole team which works even better than shield gen
I consider Mei as an off tank support she has a great tanking ability plus the possibity to help mates by “suppressing” ennemies with her freeze but there is not “off tank support” role.
and Torb armor is just a stupid comparaison he cant’ give it all the time plus it doesn’t regenerate which isn’t enought to be classify as a support
This is a bit melodramatic
“Close forever” ?
They could always make a new hero that is support without healing.
Also putting her on defense means they can make her viable in both attack and defense and no longer be situational. You will notice defense Heroes tend to be used in many situations - this frees their hands to design her in a way where she can actually leave F tier.

Players want healing from supports. If a hero can’t heal - it can’t compete with other healers for support slot in team.
Moving Symmetra to Defense category is a good move because it allows devs to balance her around dealing damage and providing utility rather than healing.

You might consider her a flying unicorn but the fact is that she plays like a defense hero and so does symmetra
Defense heroes specialize on well… defense mechanics, they can track enemies or set up traps that enemies need to defuse in order to get to the point, you either deal with mei, hanzo, widow, junkrat, torb, bastion or you won’t be able to take a point safely, the difference with offense heroes is that you should not ignore a defense hero but you could theoretically ignore an offense hero and deal with them after you reach the point
Supports heroes specialize on healing and debuffing the enemy, fairly straight forward
Which sounds more like symmetra?
I mean, Sombra is sort of a non-healing support. Zarya is sort of a non-healing support. It just seems like they’re pairing like-with-like and making Symmetra the support-hybrid for defense.
Healing has a fundamental role in OW. It cushions mistakes, and lets players actually play the game without worrying about every little bit of chip damage adding up. Symmetra’s kit does not find a way to reliably provide this atm. Losely speaking, Symmetra is Reaper with a mass-rez or Birg ult. The base kit isn’t very supportive, even if she has some supportive abilities.

I think that (and this is my opinion) we should wait and see what the rework is, since teleporter is probably not gonna be the only thing changed. I personally do not believe that sym should be made viable on attack, etc and should be a niche pick (even if people keep onetricking her). I have this view on most heroes.
Edit: maybe being viable in niche comps on attack would be okay as well, but not as a consistent pick.

Though the concept of a non healing support is what attracted me to Symmetra in the first place, I would rather have a viable defence character than the support she clearly isn’t right now.
