Symmetra's orbs should penetrate shields again

Remember this? Start at around 8:22.

I honestly think bunker is a bit too strong right now. I honestly just miss a lot of the counterplay Symm’s old orbs brought against barrier comps. Instead of “Just shoot the shield 4head”, you had other options, which made the game more fun and made Symmetra significantly more viable.

Again, it was fun and made Symmetra unique. Why did we take that away? It was fun!

Yeah that sub 1% pickrate sure was viable. Not that she’s much more viable currently but still.

Piercing orbs were fun and would make her more viable if her current orbs pierced. That’s what I meant.

Also bunker wasn’t meta back then, but it is now. Imagine piercing orbs hitting 6 people.

Her orbs took 2 seconds to charge and traveled at 10 meters per second.

Assuming they don’t step to the side or have D.va block it.

There are multiple variations you could try,

You could try to straight up add pen to current orbs

or youcan add an “overcharge” mechanic for her orbs, that lets you charge for longer for pierce,

etc

i think it could come back, idk if the devs would want to try, maybe on echo…

edit: long time no see crusher

I feel that would just introduce the problem of Sym killings players when they’re behind shields, which probably wouldn’t be liked.

What they could do is have her damage lowered so 90 per orb when it passes through barriers.

That said, I feel that it would make her counter bunker by letting her get her ult faster, which nullifies the high ground bunker usually sets up in.

Hello again.

isn’t this what made it a counter tho. like forcing them to move thus giving your team breathing room to proceed?

the orbs would be much better if they pierced now than they were before because of the travel speed.

piercing orbs were fun and definitely unique, they certainly should come back.

sym would be better against bunker and her orbs would be really strong in a grav situation.

ikr back then whenever the enemy team had a rein and bastion i would switch to sym and spam orbs to force them to move.

Even tho they were slow, it still works

Thank you WoNdErFuL rework.

ya she was in no way “viable” cause she had penetrating orbs. The only reason any one even considered her is if it was last round full hold first to win cause she has tele.

I agree, they really should. especially with this stupid bunker comp getting stronger.

I hated dealing with them as a tank main. At least most things that bypass barriers have to get close, but Sym used to just spam away from long range and there was nothing I could do about it.

Tanks have more than enough counters, I don’t need another hero :poop:ing on the role.

This is something I’ve thought a lot about. Where holding an orb for the full extra second gave it pierce.

That way you’d have the old dps for piercing and current dps without piercing.

Oh! This is a cool idea. I miss the piercing orbs a lot and they got taken out juuuust when the Metas started to shift to more shield reliant ones.

God I forgot how slow her orbs used to charge.

With old symm and torb the game was definitely more unique

Her orbs would need to take more ammo, but it is a possible change for her that would certainly be useful since she’s supposed to be anti-shield/shield-eater/etc.

Although it should only pierce shields and not enemies, meaning the full 120 would pile onto a single enemy if it hits them directly. Or up to 60 damage if it hits a nearby wall/the ground and explodes.

Sym shoukd lose ammo shooting through my sheild then

She’d be very relevant against bunker

And she does suit the role of “shieldbreaker”

Both in character design and the way her primary works.

Could see it being quite fustrating to the few Rein mains we have left though.

Maybe allow the orbs to Pierce stationary shields at full damage as an indirect nerf to Orisa who has been performing very well as of late and at half damage at Rein as he is always behind it and deserves a break at the very least.
