Symmetra Strategies

Until the day comes when Symm gets buffed, we’ll just have to make do with winning strategies.

Share your Symm Strats so we all can be ‘buffed’ by them.

My tip is to swap her primary fire and secondary fire buttons, so you can use muscle memory on aiming with the orbs.

Strategy #1:
Don’t die, if you can escape, do it.

Strategy #2:
Turret placement is very important. Try to put a turret up high, and one down low, so that your opponent is distracted by one or the other, and maximum damage can be sustained. Turrets should be placed in angles where the character must turn around to shoot and destroy them, maximizing time that damage is being dealt, and being able to capitalize on the distraction.

Strategy #3:
When using teleporter to flank, try your best to put it behind line of site of the enemy team. This will keep you from being destroyed as soon as you walk out the other end. Sometimes a good strategy is to pop over, wait long enough for them to come looking and stop paying attention to the entry point, and then pop back. This can distract the other team.

Strategy #4:
Always keep an orb charged. You never know when you’ll come around the corner face to face with someone and can hit them with an orb/punch combo.

Strategy #5:
Focus your attacks on distracted characters. If you see one of your teammates dueling it out with someone, put a turret behind them to help damage them. If you’re close enough, join in the fun and try to beam them, you’ll gain charge and can potentially use it to snowball into the next enemy.

Strategy #6:
Put TP’s on high ground from low ground that your team can utilize. Having a change of perspective can give your team an advantage against an unsuspecting team. It also works for enabling flanks the enemy team doesn’t anticipate. It is also equally useful in allowing your supports an avenue of escape or assistance not traditionally offered.

Dont pick her and expect to be able to hold left click on their tank to win.

Ever since the orb change and now even more so with the teleporter hp change she needs to flank.

Dont just hide in li jang nightmarket main and hope the enemy walks into your turrets, maybe in plat it works but it wont be effective.

You need to flank with orb. You need to solo flank, kind of like junkrat, but instead of junkrat who’d rather go for assassinations Sym is better at holding a side flanks, threatening other flankers and immediately repositioning to safety when needed.

You look at any high rank GM sym and this is how they play unless they are running rush, and even then, they play this style in downtimes.

This is how, when she was played in OWCS, she was played.

If anyone tries to give you terrible advice, especially ones downplaying the effectiveness of her flank, ignore them, they are only here to cry and not actually to improve/give good advice.

His guest Symm player suggests to stack all 3 turrets so they hit 1 target.

May I add that you should protect this setup just as a Torb protects/fixes his turret.

Then follow up with your gun ofc. Remember to space the turrets too so they won’t get destroyed easily.

I agree you should flank on Sym but let’s not pretend like that playstyle hasn’t also been nerfed hard which is part of why people are complaining.

Drop Symmetra and learn a hitscan.
No, I am not trolling or trying to be funny.

You will find your teammates will be more appreciative of you dropping Symmetra for a hitscan and your potential for climbing will grow exponentially.

Any guide you find out there is out-of-date, Turret Bomb strategies are so inefficient after HP increases, you can’t 2 tap and only a handful of players will work with your Teleporter but they are in a rank that most Symmetra’s won’t find themselves in.

Run away. Maybe when she gets buffed. But as any Vet Symmetra will tell you: you’ll be waiting a LOOOOONG time.

This video is from more than a year ago, back when Symmetra’s turrets did 40 DPS each (now 30) against 200 HP targets (now 250). She also had 25 bonus shields. It really goes to show how much the devs are always nerfing her.

sym works very well behind a reinhardt shield, if your reinhardt can make use of it. Symbeam > reinhardt hammer. Together unbeatable in close range.
If the enemy plays sigma and my tank plays rein, I usually swap to sym.

Depressing how sym has to be matched with another person and dual counter someone to be a good pick

In order to create an “identical sym” to that one, we would need to

Buff turrets to 50 dps

Buff orbs to 112.5 damage

Buff shields to total health of 275

And revert her turrets camera function. Keep that funky *** **** and keep your funky 40 hp turrets too it’s all useless compared to actually dealing damage.

They literally snatched ALL OF HER DAMAGE away, and now she can’t do jack. Taking all my damage for

10 turret hp (sweaty pray tell what break point this changes because even melee still one taps them LITERALLY what does more than 30 but less than 40)

Flank symm wont always work so here is one playstyle yiu can flal back to if they deny your flanks and off angles - become brig. This means deter people from your supps
