Title according to overbuff
Whenever I check profiles i see a lot of sym mains with a 60% win rate.
Keep in mind a lot of these syms dont even use her kit to the fullest potential (portals).
Why do you sym mains want to buff a hero that is already over tuned? As is she’s already getting a new buff soon. What more do you want? Maybe make her ult insta kill any enemies that touch it?

Winrate means nothing.
Extremely low pickrate with a high winrate indicates the character is extremely niche or the people that do play her can make her work. Like Torb, people tend to switch off Sym after first point, so her winrate is pretty high.

I mean. I don’t get what they want either but coming from a mercy and sombra main, I’m always ready to listen to other heroes about what they don’t like in their hero.
Mostly because winrate is a somewhat misleading statistic, that signals higher when only one team picks a hero.

- symm pick 3 games out of 1000 because the hero is trash in this meta.
- win 2 games out of 3
- Profit 66% winrate
- Oh wait
We don’t want a 80% winrate symm, we want a usable Symm in 300 games out of 1000. Plus No trashtalk against symm player but this one is unattainable.

Doomfist has the exact same win rate as Symmetra in GM, I guess that means they are equals
(Hint: they’re not and Doomfist is thankfully being nerfed)

Sym is not niche and is good on any map. Her teleporters allow her team to by pass choke points, and she can use the teleporters to land her turrents.
If they are niche picking her it just means they dont know how to use her kit to its fullest potential.
and you do?
Enlighten me. I only have 300 hours with Satya but I always appreciate tips.

pre rework symm (and torb) had some ridiculously high win rates. This is for two reasons.
-
they were picked to fill a specific niche they excel in. both of them were amazing at holding down a point in 2CP so their win rate was high because they were almost always just picked for that
-
The people who play them main/1 trick them. Investing hours upon hours into a certain hero is also inflating the win rate because they’re just good at them.
To summarize, the winrates for symm (and other niche heroes with low pick rates) aren’t a good view of how they’re really preforming because they’re either picked to fill a specific niche or picked by 1 tricks.

Her winrate is irrelevant; before her last rework when people considered her even worse trash her winrate was 60%+. It’s because almost no one uses her, and when they do it’s only in situations they know she’ll do well in.

incorrect. You cannot explain a high winrate over 1000s of games by saying “its niche” or even worse something concretely stupid like “people who do play her can make her work”. Like wtf? really?
The first reason is easily dispelled by looking at win% per map, or applying the reverse logic i.e. heroes with sub-50% winrates are there because they LACK niche? This just does not make any sense, of course you are going to use a hero in a situation that is favorable to it, hence Bastion on payloads behind barriers, Torb and Sym on 2CP first points, snipers on Route 66 and Gibralter high ground, etc etc. Overwatch is designed to switch heroes mid-match, which is why they let you do it. Sym is excellent at what she does - create defensive cancer (area denial) when given the time and space to do so, and pound shields with gun. Too good, in fact (55% win rate).
Sure, if people used her for every map and situation her winrate would drop some - but you can say the same for the stallers that come out at the end on defense - Mei, Hog,Lucio, etc. Or the end-of-Hanamura bastion in the corner. Or the Sombra that appears only when Doomfist is on offense. Or the tracer that switches to Cree for Pharah, or the Hammond that spins around Nepal village point forever…
You cannot excuse win rate for x hero by saying “they are using them when they should, as opposed to y character where they don’t”. You are attempting to refute a concrete fact with subjective reasoning, and attempting to isolate sym as a niche hero when in fact there are a dozen if not more niche heroes, - all of which suffer nerfs and buffs depending on winrate.

Sym’s held a high winrates forever and the people that play her have been consistently treated poorly. Sym 2.0 averaged a 60% winrate. Sym 3.0 is only getting 55%. So, for someone that played Sym they are likely losing more than before.
Way back, Blizzard’s developers said that Sym’s winrate was inflated so everyone assumes the she’s 100% terrible rather than possible just being a bit inflated. If you looked at many of the Sym one trick stats back in 2.0 you’ll notice that they stayed positive in most cases despite running her all of the time.
Without access to Blizzard’s stats it’s hard to tell how much of Sym is inflation but, I doubt it’s more than 5%.
At this point the laziest ways for Sym to stop being considered a fail pick would be for her to be buffed into being overpowered for a month or two. Long enough to change perceptions and short enough that she didn’t get mangled into the dirt in the aftermath.
Her winrate is high because sym mains know when to and when not to play her.
If she was played in every map against every comp then her winrate would be far lower.

The devs said that a low pickrate means it’s hard to tell how viable they are statistically it’s quite deceiving
LOL I hope this is a joke. Overtuned?? Are you serious? Symms winrate has nothing to do with her usefulness. The reason she has such a high wr is because ppl play sym and then switch off immediately to another hero, which preserves her wr.

Especially Puma Swede, he has 73% in winrate and i still think she needs some buffs. Winrate doesn’t say anything im sorry. Her pickrate is the second lowest in the game, torb just beat her.
The thing about her winrate is that, if she was truly an asset, we would have DEFINITELY seen her in professional play by now. When you have a 3.5 million dollar pot on the line, professional players will take every advantage they can get.
Symmetra is NOT an advantage.

Because most of the Sym players in this forum don’t understand how to use her kit dynamically by itself.
On top of this, you have an entire community that still despises her and do not want to play with her so they ignore her value entirely even if her value is directly in front of you.
“She takes so much coordination” is what a lot of people say but she really just needs the bare bones of “take TP to point” “take tp beside you it will save you.” Etc.
Her perception is also exacerbated by Sym players thinking she’s awful and then spreading that misconception just like non-Sym players have always done to Sym. “If her own playerbase thinks she terrible, why shouldn’t I?”
