Big G, if you want sym to be a counter to dva as you have stated you want her to be, why did you make it so her primary is trash against armor and in order to damage dva you have to play into dva’s effective range???
Surely, if this was the design philosophy for the sym rework then she should be strong against armor and have a longer range on her primary in order for her to be able to play outside of dvas range.
It honestly sounds like you dont know what you are doing. You have design philosophies in mind yet when you implement them you go the complete opposite direction of your vision.

not a lot of people understand the interaction between dva and symme due to symme having low pickrate
but the way it works is that symme set ups a nest and basically spam dmg into you and you are unable to do anything since if you boost in you get demeched and dies and if you just stay out of the nest you accomplish nothing.
in a teamfight symme will almost always use you as a charging station and if you or your dps doesnt kill her fast she will mess up your team with her beam since she melts things even faster than zarya on full charge consider she can also deploy turret on command now after her rework.
she works like mei in that she griefs you when you try to do your job… but she is way less squishy then mei so dps players usually just focus her down anyways
symme is still waaaay easier to deal with then mei

In THEORY she has a high damage beam weapon that cuts through her DM so she should be able to beat her in a 1v1.
In practice D.Va has 300 more hp and can just stand in front of her and kill her. Never mind her mobility and knock back and… D.Va is just so useful, seriously.
its not really about her beam that makes her hard to deal with, its the turret nest and the spam she puts into you while you are unable to do anything. if you kill the turret she will put more behind you if you boost in… if you boost in and doesnt kill her fast she will ad back strafe you while putting new turrets all around and behind you
the beam acts more like a punish timer that if you dont kill her fast in a group fight she melts everything

I enjoy Symm and if I see a Orisa+DVa combo I often will swap to Symm.
She is a real pain in the neck to deal with this tank combo as she can keep her primary charged fairly well and as long as your not trying to 1v2 you can put some serious hurt on them.
These tanks in particular also are the weakest against her Barrier Ultimate

I’m not even a very high level player and there are very few D.Va’s that I run into who have a hard time avoiding my piddly THREE turrets. You can’t ‘set up a nest’ when D.Va can so easily fly around it, destroy the turrets from a safe distance, and murder your face off because there’s no way you’re going to be able to out damage her and her micro missiles and her defense matrix with your “Wait till I charge it guys, it’ll be really good then!” Zarya Laser Pointer.
The idea that D.Va somehow gets taken down by 3.0 is LAUGHABLE.
I mean, even if you use your TP, it’s got what a 12 second cooldown? D.Va’s boosters is like, 6? She’s going to be chasing you down no matter where you go. Assuming you managed to, y’know, deploy it and wait the five years it took to become active and all.

if you live through her burst you win the fight if dva boost in. there are tons of ways like corner spaming/los abuse/ ad strafing (since the way hitscan and projectile missles dont line up) or you can just bum off a 1 heal from ana.

How do I do that? No shield, not being babysat by a team mate, not sitting on a health pack - how are you as just Sym supposed to survive?
AKA, just have your teammates prop up a defective character who literally can’t support herself at all.

That’s the quote. They didn’t say they wanted Sym to counter Dva. They said people were making suggestions that they wanted something Dva didn’t counter. And that her beam hopefully allowed that to be the case.
Dva doesn’t really counter Sym as much as she “counters” another 200hp target, but Sym can heavily punish Dva, so I’d view it as equal.
They did not say they wanted Sym to counter Dva.
She used to counter D.Va. Her slim hitbox made her somewhat resistant to D.Va’s already lacklustre damage, and her M1 was capable of reliably chewing through her mech. Defense Matrix was useless against it, leaving D.Va with precious few tools to defend herself if Symm closed the gap. To top it all off, D.Va herself relied on a small hitbox for her own survivability, and that didn’t work against the old M1.
New M1 just does nothing, so Symm doesn’t counter D.Va anymore.

well you can medkit camp or los spam or corner los abuse if you are alone.
Yeah, your best bet as old Sym was to pop shield and shield dance with it, then try to hide your small body inside her mech and dance around her while you sucked her dry - similar to what Moira might do now when cornered. As a support, she was pretty good at it. Now she’s garbage at it.
she actually was easier to deal with in her old form since she cant toss turrets behind you and her turret gets spammed down way easier
if the dva can aim dva wins vs symme old form almost all the time
new symme can play keep away the tp thing is also very annoying

Just because you CAN sit on a health pack doesn’t mean that it’s a viable strategy.
Perhaps, just maybe… The character could be fixed so she’s, y’know, useful? Capable? Rather than forcing players who want to be able to play her to have to shift their entire strategy around playing on top of health packs. Wild idea, I know.
Seriously I will play you in Overwatch if you want; I’ll play D.Va, you play Sym, and I will eat your face off. I don’t even play D.Va that much, but there is no way in hell that D.Va wouldn’t murder the crap out of 3.0 Symmetra.

Takes 1.2s to kill all 3 turrets.
Then Boost out. Heck even then you have enough armor and health to kill her.
starts at 60 damage per second - except its tick based.
So first 1.6s she does 3 damage per tick. Even at full its 9 damage per tick. With - but it comes out to 4 damage per tick since each point of armor reduces the number by 5.
Which means she does 80 damage per second against D.Va at max damage if she has armor. So we can rule out the “high damage weapon”
symme vs dva is a basically keep away game/ space denial between each other
