I’m not saying Symmetra is overpowed, but does anyone have any idea as to why this statistic is the way it is?
People tend not to pick heroes they’re bad at or are not “in the meta.” So the people who do play Symmetra are typically very good with her and end up winning more often.
Because her pickrate is really low, so the winrate is only based on a tiny sample.
Because Sym is the underdog in overwatch
When a character is switched off of their win rate and lose rate no longer factor in just pick rate, so say pick symmetra first point you lose it switch off and lose she doesn’t get a lower win rate, first point defense successful you win her win rate goes up, honestly if there weren’t any Symmetra one tricks/mains she’d probably be 100% win rate
Pickrate is kinda important in correlation with winrate. If you play a hero well in the perfect conditions it will naturally have a higher winrate than a hero played well in every scenario.
For instance, in S8, I had a 100% winrate on Zarya, where my 2nd most played (and s9 main) Moira had a 60% winrate. But the difference is I only played 1 game on Zarya, compared to 28 on Moira.
When I played both more last season, Moira stayed at a 60% winrate from 71 games, but my Zarya season winrate dropped to 27% from 9 games.
Actually her win rate will go down if you swap off first point and then lose. Win rate is scaled by the % of time you spent playing that hero, so if you play Symmetra for half of a game and lose that counts as half of a loss.
Make Jetpack Cat great again
Because she’s niche.
She’s only played on the first point because that’s where she’s strong.
People swap to other heroes on the second point, and when they win on the second point as another hero then it still counts as a win for Sym.
Hmm ok, I don’t really know how Overbuff works I just remember someone say it measures win rate like that
An old post that I wrote somewhere
Because she’s mainly played on Defense first point by meta slaves and she’s really good on there.
So quick question then. But would flex heroes have issues with MMR and SR climbing because of how often they switch and fill to fit their team’s composition?
You could argue that she’s only used on 2CP first point defense so she either full holds (highly likely to win) or switches off (still a good 50% chance to win).
- This would mean that she either wins with 100% played time;
- or she switched and won with 50% played time;
- or she switched and lost with 50% played time.
- Overall that would skew her win rate positively.
Personally, I disagree. Most Symmetra players I’ve seen are one-tricks, and not just occasional 2CP defense. And when it’s not a one trick, they almost never hold the first point and end up switching because they lack experience.
On the other hand, almost every Symmetra one-trick holds a 55-70% win rate with her; which isn’t true for any other one-trick. So there are definitely some intangibles that make Symmetra a good hero, in disorganized PvP at least (organized PvP being top500 6-stacking).
Finally, it’s also possible her win rate is simply the results of natural selection. If you don’t succeed at her, you probably stop playing her altogether as her playstyle is niche (although she’s not so far off from Reaper’s playstyle). So the only players who stick with her are players who already experienced success with her or are deadset on making her work.
I find it very interesting that people think she’s a bad hero for anything other than 2CP defense… or that she gets countered easily… We OTP Symmetras go on Attack all the time and “get countered” every single game and yet, we win a good 60% of our games. Statistics don’t lie.
Above diamond, it shouldn’t matter since personalized gains are no longer a thing
As for below diamond, yeah, swapping probably gives you less personalized gains. However, personalized gains are probably only a small portion of the total change and it’s still better to win the game and then have sub-optimal gains than to lose the game and then have slightly lower SR loss.
Thanks for the information. I keep teetering from Platinum and Diamond (PS4 and PC), and sometimes it just feels very inconsistent with gains and losses.
