Symettra does way too much damage. She can out damage a Mercy and Moria healing a tank. She can also out damage Moria when she is doing her ult. This is just with her beam, not combined with the turrets. These turrets can also be thrown to key locations, which is also broken. This is combined with the fact that her damage was not nerfed with the health nerf, so she deletes any 200 health character in around 3 seconds. This is way too strong and is almost an instant kill. Overall she desperately needs something like a rework or a nerf.
She also:
- Has one of the shortest ranges amongst DPS heroes
- Needs time to charge her beam for that extra good damage
- Has an unnecessarily large hitbox despite her model being somewhat small
- Has no defensive ability that isn’t an ultimate
- Has turrets that can be destroyed in one hit
This is a laughable post. Also a skill issue.
i absolutely hate sym and she’s extremely annoying but she’s perfectly fine the way she is, if anything the most balanced dps
I would not go that far, her polarizing results are more likely a sign that she is not balanced particularly well. That being said, she is less annoying in Overwatch 2. So I do not mind as much as I used to.
Symettra is only powerful IF you allow her to get powerful.
Her primary weapon beam is pathetically weak when you first start using it, and Symettra has to be very close to hit anyone with it. So the moment you see a Symettra on the enemy team prioritize her, do not let her channel her primary weapon.
If you can do that she will fold like a wet paper towel and you’ll have no problems with her unless you get ambushed by her turrets.
If you allow her to channel her beam long enough to shred through your team, then that’s entirely your fault and you deserve the team wipe.
The reason I dislike her is because I do not feel I am to blame. She will charge on something or someone who is out of position and once I realize she is a threat, she is popping ult and goes straight for me as the only person who shot at her.
I do better ignoring her so that she goes after someone else which allows me to kill her. The problem is it is usually a trade if I ignore her because my entire team all agreed on that strategy. Rofl.
It is much better when I am on Hog so I just combo her. Or Zen because she has to set up a cringe teleport to get back to me. But if I am on anyone else I play, I just want to die.
Most DPS can out damage a Moira & a Mercy’s combined healing. Off the top of my head, Bastion, Junk, Hanzo & Widow can all delete people instantly (or almost instantly) And they can do it from range, unlike Symmetra.
Have someone on OWL say exactly what you said and Blizzard just might nerf her.
True, she does have one of the shortest ranges, but it is a beam attack, not bullets or projectiles (which she can still fire orbs that do around 70 damage).
The charge time is around 2-4 seconds and will stay charged until she stops hitting a target. So if you are playing with newer players or in an enclosed space, she is either super overpowered or a nuisance.
I’m not sure what the hit box has to do with her being good or bad as she has a similar hitbox to most characters.
The portal can be used defensively as she can use it to retreat and place more turrets, plus with her shield she can regenerate 50% of her HP
Finally, her turrets cannot be destroyed with one hit, the have around the HP of a fencepost or guardrail (around 10 HP). This means that shot gun characters and other beam characters cannot destroy them in one hit. If they were actually 1 HP then she’d be more balanced.
Sir, soldier spray has almsot the same dps with no cahrge and more range, without being really harder to hit up close, being hitscan, and thats BODYshots

She has to work for her dmg ( if she can survive long enough to ) and then when she has them all of a sudden its “unfair” or “too strong” meanwhile some heroes can delete you risk free from across the map or pull you to them from a mile away to one tap you!
Nope gm players think she’s op like seagull and super she build her beam way too quick and the slow is crazy as well I can really only play echo(my main) while that’s fine I also enjoy playing other heroes like Genji and tracer
On max charge she deletes them in around 1.1 seconds.
That’s the thing though, she has to get there and get in range.
With all the mobility, that’s not that simple.
I think she is super strong in low ELO though so this debate will always happen unless they change her
She is only goodish when the player knows how to play well. She is fine.
Mercy by herself definitely cuts Sym’s damage potential, but Mercy and Moira together can deal almost 200 hps. Sym can only deal a flat 180 dps with her primary fire and the 30% reduction from armor cuts her damage down to like 126dps, which is not amazing. Mercy by herself can cut that damage down to 71dps. If Moira uses the orb, her primary, and Mercy is healing, they easily negate 100% of Symmetra’s primary fire damage.
Sym seems more threatening because her beam deals consistent damage if it lands, but it’s harder to use on slimmer targets. The first tick of Sym’s beam deals almost no damage because of the glitch after her rework where tapping it on someone could deal huge amounts of damage at once.
If you think Symmetra is too strong, may you never advance beyond the lowest ranks. You will be eaten alive.

And Widow can delete any 250 hp character in less than 2 seconds.
Symmetra has low range and has to do damage to increase her damage and Widow has to hit a character’s head.
All heroes have strengths and weaknesses, and just talking about strengths is not fair.
She should outdamage heal and Moira´s ult - she is dps. Just you people were too long used to her being a crap.
