Sylvia, Fanmade Hero

I am not sure on the balance of it, but the ideas are top notch concepts. You have a great career ahead of you if you keep your imagination sharp and practiced. I really love the idea of a plant-biotech support, and having a Navajo descent hero would be great.

No, I dont want this type of character in OW.

I like the concept. :monkey:

It is certainly an interesting concept. She might be one of the clunkier heroes in the game, but it is still a great concept.

You may want to clarify why Mercy and Sylvia became friends as some might be confused as to why Mercy gets along with someone that poisons things.

(You might also want to connect her to a different hero instead if you don’t already have a lot planned lore wise. Right now Mercy while she doesn’t have much lore connects with at least Genji, Moira, Old Overwatch, and Brig )

Hemlock Crossbow might be too similar to Ana’s Biotic Rifle. You’ve got a similar rate of fire, projectile speed, reload speed and both do damage over time.

The level of damage per reload on the crossbow might be low enough to get on peoples nerves.

Players at lower skill levels may hit significant issues with the crossbow as it has relatively low dps without headshots because toxins don’t stack. Players may not be as good at taking advantage of the healing debuff at lower skill levels.

Depending on how your Toxins damage over time is dealt you may want to take a look at how Hemlock Dart does it’s damage. With 190 damage on headshot + apply Toxins it’ll kill 200 hp heros in one shot but it might take a second or more. That might be more annoying to players than just getting killed in a one shot . (I just realized I did the same thing on one of the heros I was making so I’ll probably need to revise)

Since Brig’s addition Hemlock Dart’s healing isn’t terribly impressive. Brig has repair pack which has auto aim and heals for 150 health and if health is full provides up to 75 armor. While the ability for Brig doesn’t have the option to do damage, it’s on a 6s cooldown vs Hemlock Dart’s 10s.

Healing Plant will again potentially hit skill issues. You’ll need to predict where your team is going to be in 1.25+seconds and who will need healing. (or have teammates smart enough to go to the location.)

Total healing wise you’ll likely be on the weaker end.

Hemlock Dart does what 100 healing + 25/s for 2.5s (50-75 depending on how you are counting) every 10s assuming you hit for a maximum of 600 + 450 = 1050 per minute if you hit every shot.

Healing Plant will do 250 every 8s so if we are generous and pretend you had a left over one active from the last minute that’s 8 Plants per minute @ 250 each for a total of 2000 healing.

Combined that gives you 3050 healing if you play perfectly and are in the perfect situation. Mercy does 3600 healing per minute in a perfect situation. While you aren’t trying to be a main healer with your character you’d likely need your theoretical numbers to be closer to Mercy’s or above hers because it’s far easier to reach a near perfect situation as Mercy than it is with other healers.

You might want to allow enemies to be on the vines or implement something in the vines that will make it clear why they can’t.

Will the Oak be damage immune or can it be destroyed while it is building? Will the Oak’s explosion impact everything in the radius the same way or will it experience fall off? Will the Oak’s explosion damage the user? Does the Oak’s poison go through barriers?

The Oak might be even weaker than you intended as the healing it provides is lower than what an amped up Lucio does. It might be decent on the point in Quick Play when the team doesn’t have any barriers and lots of 200 hp heros but, outside of that it could easily hit real issues. The high movement heros could likely duck out right before the detonation.

Why would she become a better sniper than Ana? She deals more damage and can use a scope

Nice job, let’s get a character concept image

Whoa you’ve examined my hero from top to bottom. Thank you for the feedback. SoonTM I will update the concept with some balance changes and more lore. I agree with most of what you said. I will buff Ancient Oak, make some changes to the crossbow, and buff the healing plant. But, first, if the Oak doesn’t have health it’s presuppost that it can’t be destroyed. Second Toxins do stack, what doesn’t stack is their effect. What I mean is you can have 3 poison charges, when one ends, the second starts, and so on. And you can constantly keep the venom on them by this way. I will be nerfing it tho, too much healing reduction.

Ah, okay yeah that’d be more powerful then with them chaining sorry I misunderstood that part.

Or a 3d model… You know what I mean.
Pssst, Already working on it

Lemme know when it’s ready

I’ve already edited it go ahead and see the changes

Not so much on headshots though. I just think it isn’t a healthy combo–a hard-hitting projectile than has extremely slow fire and reload speed would feel unfair for those who got hit and clunky for the one using it

Yeah, the 30% is probably better than the 50% for the healing block to prevent it from being too hard of a counter while still having a clear impact

Yeah, the new heal values on Hemlock Dart will make it a bit more of a competitor as a healer.

Yeah, that variant of the Hemlock Crossbow doesn’t look as much like it’s just a modded Biotic Rifle and you’ll do a bit better damage wise per reload 210 (420 headshots) + 6 dots vs 180 (360 Headshots) +4 dots.

Minor Notes (Not necessarily problems)

(I don’t think any damage types as of yet ignore armor but, they probably could.)

Armor’s current normal damage interaction if I remember right is -50% damage for things that deal less than 10 damage and -5 damage for everything that is more than 10. (Although some people have suggested that some armor interactions might be more complicated I haven’t seen proof of it)

As a result, how exactly your dot damage occurs will have a significant impact on the damage dealt vs armor.

If your DOT is 25 damage after 2.5s someone with armor will take 20 damage. If it’s 5 ticks of 5 damage they’ll take somewhere around 13 damage.

(Critical Damage % wise takes less of a hit from Armor because it’s double before the 5 damage penalty)

You may or may not want other names in addition to Hemlock. I think Colorado also has Death Camas and Larkspur in addition to Western Water Hemlock that are capable of killing you albeit at significantly higher quantities than Hemlock requires.

The hero may also get relatively strongly countered by Tracer (this isn’t necessarily a problem). While you will be able to one hit Tracer with the Hemlock Dart to the head the rest of the kit may hit trouble with her if you aren’t getting headshots.

Your TTK on Tracer without headshots ignoring projectile travel time would be

T0:35 Damage, T.6666666: 70 damage T1.333333s: 105 damage T2: 140 damage (I’d assume your DOT would kill her at this point unless it deals all 25 of it’s damage at the 2.5s mark)

But, since Tracer can recall, she’d probably do it after your 3rd shot hit which would wipe all of your damage you’d done to her and all of the dots off. You’d be left with three shots till you had to reload for 1.5s and unless you got a headshot on two out of the three you wouldn’t be able to kill her.

The character may or may not hit issues with Sombra (again not neccesarily a problem) as you’d be stuck with just using the Hemlock Crossbow.

I have no clue how to view the hero. How do I open this document?

I like her! One change I’d make is enemies should be able to climb her vines, but they get damaged slightly by them as a trade off.

I hope you win the hero forge btw! You got my vote!

What’s the hero forge? Why have I not heard of this before?

Its an event on r/OverwatchHeroConcepts that happens once a month its in the voting phase right now, anyone can vote so you can go there and do so if you wish

Ah, I still wish there would be a formal one for the game. Hopefully one day.
