Switch Gyro Aiming

For anyone curious, I think blizzard absolutely nailed the gyro aiming for OW. Feels and works so much better than splatoon. Using a switch mini, so probably runs even smoother for people with pro/detachable jc

But can you flick shot with it?

Hm I haven’t changed it from the default settings which is pretty low but I imagine if you higher it you can tilt shot ?:woman_mechanic::man_shrugging:

After playin around in practice range I actually can do it

Only reason you think that is because you haven’t used proper gyro.

To be fair Blizzard’s implementation works. I’d guess it is based off of Splatoon’s gyro setup with a few nice additions, but it’s a pale comparison to proper gyro.

You can create a gyro config that’s 10x better than what’s offered in Overwatch or any other console game using the Switch Pro Controller on PC with Steam with ANY game including Overwatch.

Awesome news!

How does gyro compare to the sticks? Have you played the other console versions for comparison?

It’s better than splatoons in every way, and more fine tunable

I’ve also tried gyro with the pro controller on PC, tho not with OW, think it was fortnite. Didnt like it at all

@sircatflap yes I also have PS4 but barely played it because I dont like stick aiming for shooters. The gyro is a lot better and the sensitivity can be changed for if you want to just use it for when your on target and to track or even just all the time if you set the sensitivity higher and just use the stick to recenter.

If you like using both theres an option to make it where gyro doesn’t work while your moving the stick, pretty cool

It’s actually very similar to Splatoon. Both have a minimum horizontal movement threshold. In the case of both Splatoon and Overwatch this threshold seems to be only for horizontal movement. By comparison Fortnite on Switch also has this, but applies it to both vertical and horizontal movement. It’s also much more noticeable in Fortnite. Splatoon and Overwatch also both have a bit of smoothing. I want to say Overwatch has more. This makes aiming feel laggy although it can help inexperienced gyro users (or people who struggle to hold a controller steady).

As I said before though Blizzard did include some nice options. It’s great that gryo vertical/horizontal sensitivities are separate. The disable gyro while using stick option is nice, but there should be a button that does the same thing. There’s no need for a “recenter gyro button” when you have a “disable gyro button” that allows you to recenter in a much better way.

What sensitivities do you use and do you use aim assist? (note: if even if you disable gyro aim assist you are still using aim assist if you don’t also set the aim assist window size and strength to 0. )

I really wish I could show you just how much more responsive gyro on PC can be. It can feel just as responsive as using a mouse. There’s NO reason Overwatch on Switch isn’t just as responsive.

I don’t doubt it.

Way back when, when I had a Wii with the motion controller plus (or whatever it was called, u know, the improved edition, the one that actually worked) CoD was way more fun there than any other console.

Ofcourse HaRdCorE cOnSolE GaEmuRs made fun of the wii controls but to this day I still believe that motion controls are far superior to controllers when it comes to FPS games.

Ofcourse nothing beats m&k.

I feel that the aiming “logic” itself works really well and it’s great that you can change sensitivity on separate sliders. But one huge problem is the lag/smoothing when aiming. I want the gyro aim to work like you were aiming with a mouse or for example a VR headset; the camera should turn exactly at the same speed and at the same time as the controller turns.

Just tried out the new changes on Fortnite for Switch today and I don’t know if they changed the gyro controls but they feel much better. They are far more responsive than Overwatch’s. The screen moves instantly unlike in Overwatch where there’s a slight delay and the end result feels laggy.

Although, Fortnite has a higher minimum movement threshold (or something like it) that makes fine, precise adjustments hard. So it’s not perfect either. I’m also pretty sure it’s using acceleration which would be nice as an option, but shouldn’t be forced.
