So I used to play OW2 on my old switch a lot of times with my friends. Aside from this weird connection issue that randomly popped up over periods of time, which I previously made a report about, I have almost never experienced actual concerning problems with my connection to the OW2 servers (the only exception to that would be a weird 200+ms ping during very rare random matches which other friends of mine have also encountered at times despite being connected to the closest server).
Over a week ago, when I got my pre-ordered Switch 2, I hoped to be able to play the game with improved performance. Though the framerate and graphics/texture quality have improved tremendously, the connection got much worse. Right now, without the “Limit Client/Server Rate” options turned on, I cannot play normally for more than 10s as I keep getting pushed around due to packet loss. My abilities sometimes take over 1 or 2s to even activate, if they even do. Due to the spacing around, I often get pushed into corners, rooms, or even the enemy team. Even with the rate limit options turned on, it happens so often that I cannot play the game in any coherent way. My internet settings on my Switch 2 are also the exact same as on my Switch, so it should not be a settings/DNS issue.
Since I got my Switch 2, I have tested several other online games/features and all of those play flawlessly with my internet connection. Such games include Warframe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Mario Kart World. At this point, it feels like the problem is OW2 rather than my device or network. I find it quite concerning that the netcode handling my Switch 2 connection somehow performs worse than SSBU’s netcode. Going back to my Switch for OW2 feels more like copium than an actual solution, considering that the framerate and loading times will suffer a lot.
