Swift step as an instant teleport ability seems rather broken at times considering it goes through buildings, spawn, and extremely fast cast time. So why not make it a more skillful ability by giving it vulnerability frames before and after cast like shadowstep? Could be 0.5 seconds on both ends rather than the 1 second reaper has, but following Overwatch design logic- that should encourage usage tradeoffs and introduce risk into the ability.
Because you don’t have to make similar abilities function exactly the same
Reaper’s has a cast time because he is deadly and getting close to you means you’re about to die
Kiriko’s is used as an escape and self preservation/grouping up, and she’s a support
Kiri also has to have a teammate in range to use the ability, Reaper does not.
Reaper in general just needs to be reworked or heavily tuned, he is like the worst hero in the game right now.
But then it wouldn’t be a “swift” step. We’d need a whole new name…
True but the lack of risk with the support version is significant for a mobility ability in general
Defensive abilities are always easier to use than offensive ones.
She has the best get out of jail free ability in the entire game. Completely uninterruptable or stoppable. If a teammate is even remotely nearby, she’s getting away.
Sure, she needs a teammate to teleport to, but if she doesn’t have any to teleport to, there’s no reason for her to need to because she’s the only one there and can accomplish nothing.
There’s significant risk when you don’t know what you’re teleporting into, you might appear in front of a hog or an ulting dps, it’s a mystery rng gamble every time you use swift step through geometry

Sure. but thats not a big risk when you have no downtime in movement/reaction + a suzu (many times)
It has a cast time, so you CAN kill her during it; Especially since favour the shooter is a thing in OW
Not to mention any hard CC stops it too (Hook, Hinder, Punch)
It can be stopped/interrupted, you can stop lying and spreading misinformation about the character just because she hurt your feewings.

I wouldn’t wish shadow step on any other hero. It is not very fun even if it makes me feel very dark and evil while he screams about death coalescing.

you have no way of knowing their situation or what you are about to be in the middle of since you can’t physically see what’s going on there yet
It’s a definite risk-reward when using the skill. especially when you tele to someone who is critical health, you know you are going directly into danger but you don’t even know what enemies are there doing the damage

To be fair, it’s an extremely easy and cheap escape that basically has 0 counterplay/interaction.
