Why can’t we do this?
If you get a skin you should be able to use the weapon with any other skin that you own.
The only thing we can change is golden or not, and that is fine and all, but i’d like to have use guns with different skins.
My guess “too much work” is the excuse that will get thrown around or “working on it” might be another dodge. Pretty much anything that changes how the game already works is always too much work to do.
I mean we barely get any skins as it is, even with some of them being fairly lazy pallet swaps. The team complained about how Dva requires two skins and that was why we see so few for her.
Honestly I kind of expect more from weapon skins, they are far easier to make and I"m sure people would buy them up if for no other reason it’s the only part of the hero you can see yourself while playing. But they screwed up with the Golden Gun and competitive points system.
Bliz felt it ruined the system to force people to play competitive to unlock the guns but since they already did it people would be angry if they changed the system. So we are stuck in free fall as they won’t add rewards to the Comp Points system and won’t seemingly add any other way to get weapon skins either.
Edit: Oh yeah if we ever do get any weapon skins I’m going to say it will be behind a paywall like the Lucio emote. All the best cosmetics seem to be perks for Owl or other out of game exclusives.

if you have Oni Genji you can swap his weapons with Sparrow Genji
if you have them both, that is
I know, but let’s say if you have spitfire genji and mayhem genji, swapping weapons might cause some problems.

Probably an aesthetic reason from the art creators/skin creators. Like “this gun was specifically made for this skin and is a key part/accessory that’s just for this ensemble.”
Though it’d be much cooler if we could swap out weapons skins if we wanted.

OWL rules, there’s a lot of rules we don’t know so something like this could cause problems. For instance, you have to get acceptance to do a meet in another OWL teams city. Spitfire tried to do a meet in Seoul but dynasty wouldn’t allow it.

Meh more or less. The bigger problem was they didn’t want to force people to play competitive to unlock a feature of the game, back when they cared about such a thing. It forced a lot of people who didn’t care about their rank into the competitive games, people who didn’t care if they threw or not as they just wanted comp points.
Though given their recent actions with exclusive content locked behind Twitch and Owl I’m surprised they care any more about offending part of their player base.
