Okay, so Soldier 76 has been changed so that his primary fire is like something from a completely new hero, might as well go all the way and change his ultimate as well (if they aren’t going to immediately revert the changes).
Activating Soldier’s ult should change his Helix rockets to deal the same damage as Bastion’s ultimate rockets (205 damage) and reduce the cooldown to 1 second. Have this last for 8 seconds. This fits far better with Soldier as you’re constantly practicing your helix rockets, you get a chance to practice every 6 seconds.
It makes far more sense for Bastion to have an “aim bot” and one of the main ways you can undermine Sentry is evading fire. And it wouldn’t matter that barriers or Mei walls are thrown up as unlike soldier you’ve got the firepower to melt through them.
What to do with Tank mode?
I dunno.
Put it on the E-key and instead of shooting rockets, have it shoot “canister shot” so huge shotgun blasts. Each pellet is identical to a minigun bullet but 10 pellets per blast, 2.7 degree spread angle and 1 shot/sec.
They can only do this if S76 now has to carry around a giant rocket launcher on his back and incorporate it into his hitbox. He also has to blow a horn to signal the charge.
“These have all been discussed at extraordinary depth on the old bastion megathreads and totally dismantled as fundamentally unworkable. It cannot be refined, they cannot work.“
You claimed that moving tank form in any possible way to an alternate ability was fundamentally impossible. Yet you did it right there. It’s just hypocritical???
I said moving sentry mode to be an ultimate (regardless of what happens to tank mode) was exhaustively argued to be utterly and fundamentally unworkable.
That’s not what’s up for discussion here.
What do you think about what this thread topic is ACTUALLY about?
Well, I can say that I don’t necessarily think it really makes sense at all. There’s no reason to remove soldiers ults from him, as it does perfectly fine at what it’s supposed to do (helping low-ranked players still bring some value to a fight). His play style is meant to be easy because it helps newer players ease into the game. There’s a reason you play as him in the tutorial.
And your reasoning to give Bastion the ult… doesn’t really exist.
He deserves an aim bot because he’s… a robot? Really?
Giving sentry mode an aim bot as an ultimate would create two problems:
1 - Bastion would be even easier to play because his high-risk/high-reward ability is just flat out buffed, making it even harder to deal with in lower ranks.
2 - Bastion would become even worse in higher ranks, as his ult only requires you to setup in an ok spot and press primary fire. High level players don’t need the aim bot to pop off and he would still be a sitting duck for them to kill. It’s making him worse in both situations.
I gave at least one reason, you may say why the reason is inadequate but to just deny it’s existence is gaslighting.
More gaslighting. Won’t address what is in the thread.
Could you please pick a strategy?
Are you going to pretend there’s no reason or are you going to say the reason isn’t good enough?
I have to guess that you mean the ability SENTRY mode is “flat out buffed” but that’s not factual.
You’ve got this problem where you seem to assume there’s no way you can be wrong so you don’t see any need to fully explain yourself. You just give a rough outline of how you think it is an leave it for anyone else to make sense of it but it immediately falls apart if your explanation depends on things that aren’t… factual.
What we’re talking about here is an ultimate ability, not a flat out buff to an ability.
There is no such “okay spot”.
(or at least, very few)
This would be highly dependent on exactly where and when would be the right place to use this, just like Soldier 76 also can’t just “set up in an ok spot”.
Because it’s hard to disengage in sentry you are in some ways more limited in your options.
I feel I’ve done a terrible job of explaining myself.
Though “Activating Soldier’s ult should change his Helix rockets to deal the same damage as Bastion’s ultimate rockets (205 damage) and reduce the cooldown to 1 second.” isn’t that ambiguous.
