I mean there was one utility support, Symmetra. Someone who focused on dealing with flankers and providing more damage rather than healing, applying pressure and a barrier, keeping your backline safe so your other healer could do their job better. With a few buffs to 2.0 Sym we couldve seen something cool but oh well.
I actually never said that. I said that there were other heroes that literally impacted Health. Please learn to read and not defame someone or misquote them.
This is where nerfing burst damage comes. Itâs not a matter of making burst less effective than sustained damage, its all about making burst stop being must pick.
?
At most ranks literally all he does is sit on heals to build beat
His kit has more depth than 90% of the rosterâs though which is why at masters/GM he isnât a healbot so Iâll give him that.
Yet Zen lacks sustain and canât provide it so heâs out for ladder
And then there are 5/7 supports with their primary objective to heal, not die, stop an ult with cc if possible and heal some more.
Heck, Baptiste is the epitome of a heal bot (ironic that it isnât Moira) with him shooting his entire clip at his tanksâ backs
Who?
Is that the indian toaster that was viable for 2 weeks and went straight back to meme-tier?
I think it was a TP bot for a couple of maps but I donât usually see itâŚ
Agreed
Iâm very sad they were removed.
They as in shield gen + scrap armorâŚ
For the competitive FPS they were marketing with OWL as representation, I can see why.
For the more casual part of the game, which I think fits a class shooter better, it fit like a puzzle piece.
I remember the matches with Sym shields and Torb armor bridgette ults⌠That made snipers hard to play.
I donât necessarily think thatâs a bad thing on its own
Snipers donât have to lack counters outside of team-wide coordination to shut them down.
But the addition of Brigg was a step over an already fragile line they were treading
It is unfortunate, I dont often queue dps so I miss out on playing one of my old favourites, I really hope OW2 comes with a few needed reworks and something different. Its wild how they said they wanted to keep the characters identity but managed to change her so much shes not even Sym anymore
There is a really easy way to solve this, wanna hear it?
nerf burst
and give sustained damage heroes different % of antiheal,
if you have a consistent 50 dmg, lets say from winston thats nothing its going to get out healed, but if that 50dmg is also applying 50% reduced healing now thats a lot more than before
and the good thing is we didnt make the power creep worse at the same time
She hasnât been sym for awhile now
Her rework basically made her niche a barrier eater as well as a punisher to Dva
The consecutive nerfs she got after her damage nerf deleted her only niche in 3.0 lol
Sym is no one, the devs have no idea to do with her and have decided that if they ignore her long enough, her mains will go extinct.
funny that you point to a meta where soldierâs burst damage was worse than currently to support the claim that burst damage will always be better than sustained.
ill compare ranged hitscan (soldier, mccree, ashe, widow) because its quicker. widow has the highest ttk on tanks (high=bad low= good) and the worst shield break by far of the 4. her ttk on targets she can ohko is obviously instant if she is prescoped/charged but it is mediocre otherwise. she is also more susceptible to dive than most dps heroes since her movement cd is relatively long. on top of that, all she really has is her insane ranged burst. Mccree has the 2nd best shield break of the four and the lowest ttk in most scenarios. to compensate for this, he has the most steep damage fall off of the four, is fat, has a mediocre ult and has relatively bad movement (susceptible to dive). unlike widow, he is useful without his gun as he has a stun cd. soldier has the best shield break of the four and the second lowest ttk in most scenarios. his gun has greater range than mccree though less than widow (obviously). unlike the other 3, he has an inexpensive movement cd which makes him better vs dive than the rest. like mccree, he can be useful without just his gun due to his heal cd. Ashe has the third worst shield break and average ttk of the four (not by much). her guns range is equal to soldierâs but she can zoom, which makes it easier for her to line up her shots than soldier. her movement cd is literally broken as it functions as omnidirectional 10m movement skill and a boop on a 10 second cooldown (> mccree roll). she is susceptible to dive but not even close to the extent of widow. unlike widow (again), she also has free damage/ult charge independent from her gun on 12 sec cd (> flashbang). her ult is debatably the best of the four. the only one that seems as if their tradeoff is significant enough is ashe and that can be changed once blizzard realizes that they can do more in a nerf patch than increase cds by 2 seconds.
They nerfed her niche, now she is just generic spammer. Her primary isnât much without a whole team backing you up and itâs not even worth it compared to the whole team backing up a genji when he ults.
It was exactly the same as now. I wasnât talking about when he was meta.
no, it isnt. in this scenario, burst damage/sustained damage is used to describe their weapons relative to one another. soldier is the sustained dude, ashe is the burst gal. sustained damage and burst damage arent defined by which kills quicker, its defined by uptime.
oh, I thought you were talking about triple tank. my fault.
And now youâre just wrong
You might want to look at a dictionary my guy
dictionaries wont prove me wrong, at least not as far as this is concerned.
Brigitte can easily be that.
But due to the whole OW community, it always gonna be
Healing/Damage > Utility when it comes to DPS and Supports.
I am so down for the day that High Healing isnât a privilege.
If you are out of position, and mess up bad, you deserve to die, and not blame healers because of both high damage and healing
if your definition were correct, prior to the fire rate buff, mccree would be considered a sustained damage hero relative to soldier.
The difference is, healing and sustain in general are slowly coming back to release levels with Bap/Moira/Brigg/Ana arguably being weaker than they launched.
Not to mention, countless other nerfs to barriers and utility as well.
Damage is only going up. We may not be at Mccreeâs FtH headshotting levels of bad but damage definitely has more wiggle room
No. He wouldnât.
Burst damage is quick, high damage. Sustain damage is steady force that eventually overwhelms. It can be low or high but it canât come from a single engagement.
A burst weapon is a weapon that does a ton of damage quickly in a single engagement, a sustain weapon does itâs damage spread out over more things (e.g. pellets of a machine gun in Soldierâs case)
The game has nearly always revolved around which hero could most effectively burst someone down (kill them very quickly, often in a single engagement) with heroes that focus on slowly overwhelming their enemies almost never being good. The exception was tank metas, because tanks cannot be burst down.
Thatâs why Soldier was able to be meta then when sustain was some of the strongest it had ever been.
