Surefour uses angle snapping

Some have said this is considered cheating. Is there any official word from the devs if this is in fact considered cheating?

Definitely in the grey area at least. I dunno though.

What is angle snapping?

Some mice have driver software that enable this ā€œfeatureā€.

If I’m not mistaken it would mainly be used to keep the mouse straighter at longer distances by snapping to an invisible ā€œangleā€ or box drawn on the screen

I had to google it, but a thread in these forums back in 2018 had a pretty good desciption:

ā€œAngle Snapping will artificially guide your mouse in a straight line if it thinks that you are trying to do so, removing human imperfections.ā€

Only ever seen it used for actually trying to draw straight lines with a mouse though. I guess if you’re playing something where you always want your cursor in at the same height it might be nice, but it sounds like it would be really really annoying and interfere with your aim.

In drivers like the Steelseries mice you can change the way the Mouse moves for example having angle snapping makes you mouse move straight to the left right up or down without the usual movement of up and down while you’re doing it naturally.

however it will always do it and your aim will only work by snapping in place and not having fluid aim think about it as having a box and it moving on the corners of the box straight and it snapping in the middle of the box if you want it to go down

If you want to keep it at head height in a choke, for example.

Are all hero heights the same? I’ve never really looked into that.

Most of them are pretty similar, some vary a bit, like Torb I think, Sigma pretty sure his is higher

The reason I’m asking is because upon reviewing my gameplay, I notice a lot of times when I try to ā€˜flick’ to my target I often go wide to their head… doesn’t surprise me either. I can’t draw or even write in a straight line either. angle snapping might be something I can benefit from.

AKA Moira Right click

I forgot to mention that you can change how sensitive this feature is. I can’t remember what causes angle snapping to occur in the software but I think it has to do with speed of the mouse. It might just be how sensitive the mouse cursor is to the angles though.

Meaning lower angle snap sensitivity will not snap to angles as often.

Have the devs stated whether or not it is cheating? Is it cheating?

Vast majority of high level fps players prefer to not have angle snapping as they want their mouse movements to represent as close to a 1:1 what they see on screen as possible. Surefour is an outlier in this regard. However, I don’t think it’s cheating in any capacity. For example owning a high refresh rate monitor allows you to see more than someone using a 60hz display. That’s not cheating.

I don’t think it’s cheating either, as it’s not something I’ve gone out of my way to obtain. It’s a feature on my mouse. I’d like to try it out, but if it is cheating then I want nothing to do with it

Don’t most cheap mice have angle snapping? I thought angle snapping was an unwanted feature for gaming mice like built-in mouse acceleration.

I’d say it’s got more in common with mouse acceleration than a cheat in terms of what to consider it, honestly

Yeah I wouldn’t think it’s cheating. Most people could see it as a hindrance tbh

It really all depends on Blizzard. Late last year RUST straight up banned anyone using Bloody/A4Tech mice because they have internal software and you could setup macros to control bullet spread, effectively neutralizing it. So players with this enabled could go full auto with an AK and every shot hits the same spot.

Basically, there is lots of potential to cheat with certain mice, and since the software is on the mouse itself it’s harder to detect. Blizzard is a much larger company and I don’t see them banning these mice like FacePunch did, but it’s possible.

They were banned just for using those mice or they were actually using macros? You can make scripts for Logitech mice that can remove recoil etc. which is basically built in AHK.
