Supports - what to do if team doesnt counter pharah/mercy?

Playing support in gold 3, I am often facing Mercy + Pharah; damage dealers at this level still do not know how to kill them and/or counter pick. I will often see repeat selecting of Junkrat and Reaper lol.

What do you do? Ana? Baptise? Im talking after communicating with the team and it subsequently being ignored.

It is frustrating. The matchmaking system in this game is by far the worst I have ever seen.

You are the same level as your damage dealers then, if you can’t just pick bap and shut this e-daters down.

I use bap vs phara since you can easily kill her and jump around off the ground making urself a harder target to hit.

As an Ana player I am usually the one to deal with Pharah or Pharmercy if the dps decide its not their problem. It’s simple enough if the Pharmercy/Pharah is focusing on something else, but as soon as she’s focusing on you, yeah, gg, you can’t win that. Best you can do is find angles and cover to get good shots at the flying annoyances, while still being in sight of your team, but ultimately, if the Pharmercy knows to pick you off first, there’s really not much else you can do. Some matches just are not winnable if the team isn’t willing to work together to deal with problems.

There are many options. Not saying they’re guaranteed success, but they’re options.

If your team has a hitscan, Pharah or Echo, play Mercy and help them.

Go Ana/Bap and try to diminish Pharah’s effectiveness.

Go Moira and kill the Mercy. Plenty of map’s ceilings are not high enough for Mercy to be out of Moira’s range.

Get used to people ignoring all comms. The ’s on these forums often act like it’s an SR boost to get out of voice.

Start practicing up on Ana/Bap, depending on how the duo are playing these are your best /only real viable options.

Comp is pretty universally accepted to be in it’s worst state ever

No ones mentioning zen, and i get why (easy target, projectile m1) but discord helps a lot.

Usually I answer with Ana. Ultimately it’s still going to be very hard. If your DPS can’t handle that, they probably won’t be handling much else and you’ll still need to support them so they can get their worth vs the other DPS/Supports. You’re literally going to have to hard carry, which isn’t impossible…

But trying doesn’t hurt. So ya, usually I’ll answer with Ana. Her DMG and hitscan with scope + her dart size is pretty good.

Also this. Low ceiling is still good opportunity for Moira.

Zen/Bap, Mercy/Bap could also be good.

Yes, Ana, Bap, Zen are your best bets, imo. Moira even has surprising vertical range on her suck.

Just zoning her out is often a good strategy. Position yourself in places that force her to get uncomfortably close, like playing indoors whenever possible. And like others have said, Ana and Bap can at least force her to play more cautiously, if not kill her outright.

Aggressively target the other healer. Killing the other healer forces Mercy to leave Pharah to keep the team alive. Pharah without Mercy is an easy kill.

Yeah, no. Seriously that does not work.

Playing Bap vs. PharMercy means that your team loses a support since you, as Bap, will have to devote most of your attention to killing Pharah. This can be okay, but it also means that the other support will have to devote a lot of attention to Bap. Because Bap is the person mainly harassing Pharah, Pharah will want to target this (plus, he’s a support… she should be targeting this.) It creates a situation where both supports are concentrated on either killing pharah, or assisiting eachother in killing Pharah. Now neither of them can spend time healing the team because they have to kill the Pharah.

Like, yeah maybe Bap v. Pharah works in some situations. It certainly works fine if you have other allies helping you to kill Pharah (EX: hitscans and whatnot). However, if you are the ONLY person who can hit Pharah (like in comps where you have multiple projectile/limited range DPS) you really cannot deal with her without hindering your team significantly.

I say this as T500 support player. This is why I don’t think Pharah is good design. She relies SPECIFCALLY on DPS players to counter her. I had a game with a Junk OTP and a torb OTP… that’s fine UNTIL they pick Pharah and then we instant lose because no one can deal with Phar, even if we play D.va/Ana/Bap… even if we DO swap to that comp, Pharah is still forcing a triple switch, and the enemy team can swap to counter our counters (EX: Sym/Zar/Lucio to run over the backline).

I generally lose. If I go Bapt or Ana and start shutting them down, they start flanking and focusing me instead. This means I have to play safer, lowering my impact.

People always forget that the other DPS and Tank are likely hunting you as well while your trying to down the Pharmercy.

I would go Ana. If youre a god you manage to sleep the Pharah mid air and make her drop into the pit.

As a Support? Try playing Ana, Bap, Zen, (If Mercy, ult and kill the other Mercy, and then the Phara).

But honestly, the same issues arise with just about any uncontested hero or duo. If a team has a weak spot, then it’ll most likely get exploited.

Just leave or soft throw. Let their idiocy be damned.
