Supports themselves hear ult voice lines in English. Why?

So I know that support players hear the English voice line for their ultimates (same one with what their teammates hear), but tanks and dps players hear the same line as their enemies.

Is there a reason as to why this works differently for supports?

That’s not correct at all. It depends on the hero. and their nationality, as well as how comfortable the voice actor is at doing lines both in English and their hero’s native language. It just so happens that almost every support hero has someone that’s either a native speaker of their hero’s language or were comfortable enough to do multiple lines.

Guess I worded it poorly. But the idea is that supports hear the same line as their teammates for their own ultimates, whereas tanks and dps hear the same line as their enemies, for their own ultimates.

Once again, it depends. Allied Reaper says “Clearing the area” while the enemy hears “Die! Die! Die!” You’ll just as likely hear the English voicelines for Genji and Hanzo as their Japanese lines while the enemy only ever hears the Japanese versions. An enemy Zarya will always say the Russian voice line while you’ll just as often hear allied Zarya say “Fire at will!”

Personally I think it’s a bug in ult lines. Like for a while Moira would ONLY say her Gaelic ult line while it used to be enemy Moira would be in Gaelic while allied Moira would only be English.

I think what OP means is something like this: When you’re playing, say, Reaper, and YOU use ult, you and the enemies hear “Die, die, die!”, but your team hears “Clearing the area…” If you’re playing Lucio and YOU use ult, you hear “Oh let’s break it DOWN!” which is also what your team hears, as opposed to you hearing the enemy line, the Portuguese line. It’s a bit of an inconsistency I’ve noticed.

It’s just how it is, theres really no explanation of the way they treat your own cast an of ultimate vs a enemy

As DoctorWaffle mentioned, if you are the reaper you hear “Die die die”

There is probably some reason as to why they have been following this design choice, though. and I’m just curious

True, and supports get a much different treatment.

Actually it may be because a support ultimate helps her own team, rather than something AGAINST them. Therefore they have different voice lines to match it. Like for Mercy’s default skin, its “Heroes never die”, and enemy is " Helden sterben nicht" to differentiate who’s casted it for their team.

Enemy doesnt matter because its against the enemy, so the voiceline doesnt matter as much (because its your pov only if that makes sense)

Well it’s more inconsistent I think

For example Reaper to both himself and the enemies will say “Die! Die! Die!” but to his teammates they will hear “Clearing the Area”

Even for tanks; Zarya and the enemies hear her Russian line; but her teammates hear “Fire at will!”

Supports ALWAYS use the friendly lines both for themselves and teammates; where only the enemy players hear the other languages (If they have one)

Idk maybe just for emphasis lol.

I’m pretty sure the idea behind it is that you don’t confuse an ally ultimate with an enemy’s.

I get that part for ally ultimate lines. It’s the ultimate lines that yourself hears that is weird. If you are playing a support hero, your own ultimate line is going to be the same as what your teammates hear. Whereas if you play tank or dps, your own ultimate line is the same as what the enemy team hears (as oppose to what your teammates hear).

Hm. You, know I really don’t have an answer to that.
You could say it’s a bug, but why was it here since day one?
:man_shrugging:

Haha yeah I don’t think it’s a bug since they’ve followed the same pattern with all the new heroes. I’m just wondering why they do it this way. I was checking out voice packs in other languages and some of them don’t do it this way.

For example, if you play Mercy with the Chinese voice pack, she says the german line upon her own ultimate (and I think that’s what her teammates hear as well?). Whereas the enemy mercy says the Chinese line.

Odd.
That’s what it is, lol.

Actually, wait. Don’t Baptiste and Moira say their foreign lines if you’re the one casting them? I don’t play either hero toooo often though, so I could be wrong. I think it’s just an oopsie.

Huh, according to wiki, Moira does say her foreign line, that’s weird. Bap says “Light them up” though

Edit: Actually no, Moira says “Surrender to my will”, which is what her allies hear as well. the wiki page is wrong

I always found that weird… Actually, it happens with Widow Maker too, she says “no one can hide from my sight” for herself and her teammates, and just enemies listen “personne n’echappe à mon regard”.

If you are playing said character you will hear it on English

If YOU are playing Mercy, you will hear “Heroes Never Die”
