Supports Purposely Throwing in Battle of the Beasts

It’s becoming an issue.
In a lot of my matches in this mode now, one support (typically Moira or Mercy) focuses on healing the beast the whole match to complete the “Puller of Thorns” challenge, which requires you to heal the beast for a total of 60,000 (across matches).
They will typically sit in that small room behind the pillar healing the beast the whole match. Sometimes they will leave the pylon point early so they can start healing the beast again as soon as possible.

I know the challenges suck, but this is just selfish and guarantees a loss for the team every single time.
Other people want the challenges done too, and when supports are focusing on doing this challenge, nobody else can make progress towards the other ones because they just die over and over.

PS: Healing the beast does almost nothing. It’s a complete detriment to the team to heal the beast over teammates, unless you use Zen’s Transc.

You have to blame Blizzard for this one.

Some people just want to finish challenges as soon as possible, winning or losing be damned.

Blizzard should have just made it “heal 90,000 in battle of the beasts” regardless of who receives healing.

Yeah. I would recommend Zen for this purpose since his Transc healing on the beast actually helps a lot, and he can just use heal orb.
Zen’s point in this mode is mostly to throw Discord on the enemy Mauga anyway.

Update: Just had 4 matches in a row where we lost because of this.
On the fourth one, our Ana decided to stop healing us and only focus on the beast. I would walk up to her using the “i need healing” voiceline at 5 health and she’d utterly ignore me. If I walked infront of her she’d shift so she could keep healing the beast. Got them again next match as Bastion and they spammed the “i need healing” voiceline and would use the sit emote if they didn’t get it.

Update 2: 6 matches in a row now where the supports focus the beast and we all get stomped hard because of it.

Some of this challenges are stupid. I suppose that Blizzard thought that you was going to accidentality heal the beast… So it was going to be a very slow progression… That devs by now haven´t learned how the player base behaves when it comes to this challenges is interesting!

Yeah, I did this to get the challenge done. Mind you, I was pinging to get my team to play the ramp into the arena OR the side room with the pillar, because I would prioritize keeping them alive. They often wouldn’t, and my Mauga invariably ran all over the place chasing people. But I wouldn’t leave that room during the beast fights, BECAUSE I was trying to knock out the challenge asap.

It was scummy and I knew it was as I was doing it. But 60,000 healing is a helluva lot of healing to be done and getting it done accidentally over the course of the event was not a possibility. You HAVE to tunnel the beast if you want this done in less than a dozen matches.

Ok but 80% of matches in this mode are lost because the supports focus the beast and let their team die.
Vast majority of my matches in this are losses because of this.

It’s because it’s a braindead mode that people want to be over when they’re playing it. It’s genuinely worse than the mode is normally, which isn’t the greatest. A lot of people prefer 2CP, Hanamura in particular to this.

As long as the challenges aren’t kept simple to encourage PTFO things like this happen. This was one of the biggest issues in Halo Infinite that turned away players along with lack of content launch year.

SO DO I. That’s why this sucks, because for everyone else in the match trying to get the challenges done so they can stop playing this trash, it makes it much much harder to get any progress.

Update: Finished everything except the healing challenge, and honestly I’m going to skip it.

I get ur point , but let’s be honest the OW Team caused this with the unrealistic ridiculous challenge , and it’s a bad mode anyway.

Some players are trying to finish the challenge .

For me I realised it will take me a whole week of healing a giant Orisa to finish the challenge so I gave up .

They focus on raw stats and other data. It seems they still don’t understand the meaning behind the data

I played one match i was tracer and in total I faced 15 different players on the other team because people keept leaving becuase we were rolling them I felt bad honsetly wish it didnt have to be this way but new arcade gamemodes for events are useally not done well

I would say I hope this shows them not to do challenges like this again, but I know they will anyway.

I did that just to finish the challenge asap. Since it’s most likely people will stop playing this mode in few days and then i had to wait for more 30 mins to finish the event.

I wished they stop making this events just for the sake of content and seasons. They are awful.

Doesn’t the dmg and healing challenge not really give anything special? Like an intro you can buy with old credits and like 2500 xp? I certainly wouldn’t play a crap mode for tiny rewards like that.

Think outside the box. I asked if people wanted to just farm the bots instead of playing a billion rounds of the mode. THey said yes. 2 20 minute games and the challenges are done.

In the first one, our Mauga had 71k dmg alone.

That they haven’t gone back on the weekly for hero mastery (4 000 tokens collected) and tweaked it.

It is all about retain players…

Are you seriously blaming supports for trying to complete a challenge over Blizzard for designing these counter intuitive goals? What the hell?

That’s why this game is in such a terrible state. Blizzard could DDoS you off their server and you would say, “thanks, ThiccBuddha, you should die.” :joy:

It’s a great example of why challenges that rewared things outside of the actual game itself are not good in pvp games.

I already predicted this when I saw the challenge requirements.

One states “Heal the grand beasts for 60,000.” Which if you’re like me, spent several match just healing the dang beast because 60k is a lot of healing, all just to get the the achievement done.
