You can see it go around over and over again
Support are just becoming dps now
It isn’t new too
I’m just made this because I’m tired of the new heroes being too OP like kill me now if Juno is going to get buffed in the next season
Like the face of support being dps is Moira
Moira is a character with a really large player base
And not to forget the others too
Kiri, Illiari, Zen and even Juno
We had her for 2 days and she was immediately a dps
We have:
No aim needed = Moira
Do 1 thing and then dps = Zen + Illiari
Broken headshot and/or ability = Kiriko and Bap
In there for memes = Mercy + Ana, Lucio and LW
Just dps = Brig
And there are some Dps that actually help and/or heal (god bless them)
Like Soldier76 healing teammates
Genji deflects bullets for the others
And even Echo using ults to rez or heal
I understand that there are people who play them seriously and that they actually heal a lot more but still
Some people just find a nano Mercy better than an actual game
Again
I understand there are people actually playing the characters seriously and I am sorry if this offended you in a way
Newsflash, everyone is basically a dps. Supports are dps who can heal. Tanks are dps but bigger and extra hp
That’s one of the reasons we went to 5v5, to be make overwatch more of a shooter and appeal to what the majority of players want, to dps and shoot things.
The core issue with DPS is there is nothing that really separates their identity beyond, We do damage.
Tanks have supportive effects in their roster that can do things like team buff on JQ shout, we can shield other allies, we cna have ball give overhealth now, etc.
Supports can give buffs to allies and heal them.
Why are DPS still the role that can’t get away from the selfish mindset and provide some beneficial team effects? DPS could be the perfect enemy team debuffers bolstering their teams efficiency through negative team effects like CC, dmg amps, anti-healing, etc.
Its only with this most recent anti-healing buff that DPS are finally more supportive and focus firing the same target is more rewarding to do.
I do feel that one of the original appeals of Overwatch was that there was a playstyle for everyone. Nowadays though every hero is, or is becoming, some shade of DPS.
Hilariously, Blizzard did exactly that with the passive. They finally gave ALL dps a unique utility that only they can do. Its actually a teamwise benefit because it encourages focus fire into the same unit. Even if they are getting healed.
Kiriko and Baptiste are hard throwing if they’re not doing any damage, that is just a straight up fact. Illari is simply bad design but her time in the spotlight will be short lived due to the impending nerf hammer coming her way.
Considering Zenyatta has been in the game since launch, supports have always been dps. 2 of the other 3 were sym and Lucio. Maybe your understanding of this game is flawed
Its really just a shift in power. To facilitate gaining some other utility you likely need to cut something else out in return. Several heroes go very hard into the mobility. Several DPS have 2x abilities designed for mobility.
