Support could use Symettra. Why not make minor changes and move her?

No one wanted Symm on their team. She just wasn’t a good damage output. The shields she gave out were “ok” but nothing compared to healers.

She’s almost always been considered a throw pick though most mid or higher ranks.

This is a whole new sym than from launch. Make her shift a support skill, the rest of her kit is already support. not sure why the past matters this much

Heal turrets would be OP on choke points like Hanamura. 3 turrets out of LOS of the enemy non-stop healing some tank standing there. Even if they were only something like 10hps each.

I mean it doesn’t even have to be turrets. Could be a brand new skill, but I’m sure they could come up with something w/ turrets if they wanted

Devs tried that before reworking her, they said it was just too awkward and provided little value.

Her kit just feels too focused around being able to do damage now, I don’t think the change is very possible outside of being able to provide buffs to players.

Something I saw a while back that I thought was neat is if the proximity of her turrets and teleporter provided a shield (15 per sentry and 25 for teleporter).

Her older kit could have worked for support, but that’s long in the past now.

Sure, she could. But you either have to change her kit completely, at which point you might as well make a new support hero instead, or you end up with the Roadhog phenomenon, where people will just groan whenever you pick Symmetra because she won’t be as good at healing as other supports are (in the same way Roadhog can’t tank for his team much). :man_shrugging:

Why do you have to change more than just her shift? Her ultimate and TPer are fine as is for a support hero

She’d definitely need a rework.

They have to take into consideration her survivability (which is already bad and on top of that, being a support, she’s going to be focused even harder), different abilities to make her an effective support while also making those abilities cater to shields in some sort of way.

Either way, she’d have to be reworked, that’s like moving any dps into the support category and saying “their Ult and primary are fine I guess”. When in reality it doesn’t work that way, it needs to be thoroughly thought out in a way that makes her an actual viable support, not like how she used to be.

Exactly, which is exactly why it’s not a good idea. If you wanted to actually make her a full fledged support you’d basically have to change just about everything about her kit. So why change her instead of just making a new support instead?

The way they categorized and classified heroes was basically arbitrary guideline and didn’t actually matter in an unlocked, unjailed system. In those creative times, you could put together a comp from w/e labels - it didn’t matter in the sense of nothing enforced.

That is why I say people reasoned more about utility then role - and arguably still should. When you build comps along the axis of utility and not role labels, you get back to sombra, soldier, sym, mei, etc. all offering a kind of crossover value.

That is why I sort of bin them together, and would avoid a rework of one without looking into the others. Since we need dev resources to fix other more pressing matters (like fixing their sketchy in-game systems, and stopping the game from outright dying), I’m against total reworks that change role labels and unnecessarily complicate things.

I mean if matches were longer and maps were bigger then sure, her setting up like a healing station could work (ala the dispenser from TF2), but with how OW is, it just really goes against the flow the game is aiming for.

Fast matches, with rather small and fairly linear maps.

That’s automated healing which is pretty insane, the only way it could be balanced out is if it did really minimal amounts of healing.
That would be like adding 3 extra stationary healers to your team which can be pretty insane in terms of setting up a Bastion nest.
The problem with turning Sym back into a support character is she’d be way to multi-functional.
A support with abilities to move around her entire team, heal them, as well as pump out damage to the other team without breaking a sweat seems to be a bit overkill.
Sorry, I just can’t see how this would ever be a good idea, back when her shield generator was in the game, it was pretty busted as it was just like another healer for the team, Moira’s orbs are being made fun of because of how stupid they are and you’re suggesting another one pretty much. Please. God. No.

Heal turrets are lame and take away from turrets. Just let her become a true builder. Press the TP button. Works like a Moira orb and you can select TP/Shield Gen or hardlight Large Health pack spawn point.

It could of easily been done and it still fits her unique design, while utilizing most of her current kit

Sym should of never left the support role, biggest mistake imo. She should just get reworked back to support. Her offensive rework is a mess and a failure.
