Support Changes

“We’re discussing targeted support hero reworks, game system updates, and even some role-wide changes to improve support quality of life.” - Overwatch Developer Blog, November 17, 2022

So it just under a month after this statement. Have any decisions been reached? Haven’t seen any of these materialize, nor any further discussions with the community or even content creators.

While I understand we’ve entered the holiday season, some sort indication of where things are going would be much appreciated. The status of the support role is an ongoing concern for the community at large, and some basic information would go far toward addressing the support concern.

I think the support “problem” is nonexistent

Yep, so nonexistent that even the developers acknowledged it.

You personally may not be seeing any issues, and that’s great. But a lot of people are expressing concerns, from the lowliest bronze to top 500.

And no, this does not mean all supports need buffs. There’s quality of life and game feedback issues that could use some addressing. That would go a long way towards improving community perception of the support role.

I think the matchmaker implications of a lack of Supports is a time bomb that’s going to detonate on December 20th when they add a new Tank hero to Comp, and make the Tank:Support player ratio a lot worse.

Although it won’t be fully acknowledged until, ironically, right around December 25th.

And the devs will probably not do anything about it until at least January 10th.

Your perception is slanted cuz i dont have any problems getting off rein and going ham on support

Yeah, they buffed mercy’s ammo by 5. They also reduced Ana’s dart from 15s to 14. Still game feels worse for supports in every new patch. I’m missing Overwatch 1.

You’re not reading my responses, are you? That’s not the discussion at all. Are you just trying to be argumentative for the purpose of being argumentative?

Once again, I’m glad you’re having such a great time on supports. Not everyone is, the development team recognized that, and I was inquiring as to their status in addressing that. That’s all.

Im simply saying, this “problem” is just what bad players are using to JUSTIFY" their MISTAKES. Overwatch is cause and effect and youre responsible for all your deaths. You have to learn to not get sniped and hooked and flanked, aka staying alive, before you can even say that the supports supposedly have a “problem”.

Frankly, I agree with you. I’m having a blast playing support personally.

That said, my opinion is in the minority. Pretty much every place that players can provide feedback has a general perception of support not being in a good place. And there’s an obvious lack of support players as a result.

So, even though you and I don’t think there’s a problem, there’s enough of a community perception of a problem that it matters. Perception is reality.

So, real problem or just widely perceived problem is irrelevant. Either way it affects how many people are willing to play support. How do we fix that? Honestly, I don’t know. But we (the community) need to think of something besides just giga-buffing supports before the balance team comes up with a really bad idea.

I’m not saying the support role has problems. The DEVELOPMENT TEAM has recognized that there is an issue. And a lot of what they were talking about to address it was changing game syatems to make playing support better, better rewards for playing support, and maybe a few targeted reworks.

You can deny that there is an issue and say support player just need to get better all day and night long, but it won’t change the community dislike for playing supports.

You’ve made that quite clear repeatedly.

But since the community, pros and devs disagree with you perhaps you could politely move on to gaslight other topics and stop tanksplaining to us every time you get the chance.

Your posts are quickly amounting to spam., with no helpful info.

Why would support mains listen to a part time tourist over their own experiences. You know better than everyone else and we should just throw our own thoughts out the window and follow you blindly.

You’re letting tanking go to your head.

It’s fine if you’re a control freak Butters, we don’t care. But we’re not going to ignore a problem because you don’t believe in facts.

It’s not even a week since Ramattra came out and my queue times are already back to almost what they were before his release. Queueing yesterday my estimated queues were 4/1/1, with my tank queues not actually taking 4 minutes, more like 1-2 minutes.

Queue times really aren’t nearly as bad as you or I thought they would be

In no scenario should Supports get gigabuffed when they don’t need it.

If they need balance changes to be balanced so be it, but for the sake of queue times absolutely not.

Aside from actual balance changes that are needed, just slap 2 OW2 coins as a reward for every support game queued for & completed. Boom. I’ll queue for more support games if I’m getting OW2 coins for it.

just give all supports a +10% movement speed bonus already

I don’t think you’re really accounting for how they are probably reducing matchmaker quality to get more matchmaker speed.

Faster matches with non-stop lopsided stomps, is still really unhealthy.

I’d be down for this. As much “all roles” aka the second support queue as I’ve been playing, I could be rich in currency. Let’s go!

Better rewards for support play would be a good stop gap to address queue time issues as they pop up.

Some changes to support feedback might good as well. Maybe add saves to the general scoreboard. Had 12 saves on a game last night, and have no idea if that’s good or not, because I’m the only person who can see that info. Would be great to have a comparison.
