There are two type of peoples that play supports in Overwatch.
People that like to provide utility for their team, and peoples that flex for rewards.
Not everyone want to be a dps, some want to heal (OMG healbots!!), some want to change the battle with nice buff/debuff, and for the one that like hybrid support/dps, rejoice, there is some pick in the support roster to do it.
Making support less support and more dps will not make the class more attractive. DPS players will stay in the DPS roster. The only thing that will do is making support that don’t like being DPS quit the class, or the game all along.
Making all support more DPS will not reduce Queue time, quite the opposite.
Overwatch have a lot of players, from all type of games. Lets not make the mistake of forgetting it.
They need to make support role more appealing for different type of players, point. Some dps hybrid, some tank hybrid, high mobility heroes, CC heroes!
Go funky on support roles characters, they need it.
We need supports characters that a hard to kill. A 400hp support with low heal/ low dps and full of displacement/ CC abilities would be really dope and would kick the meta a bit.
I don’t think anybody at Blizzard is seriously considering a rework of all supports like what they did to tanks. This is the game, like it or not. At most they could add more heroes like Moira. But most of the supports they’ve added have already been fairly combat oriented. If anything they need more options for Mercy style players.
Pretty much every other ability based game expects SUPPORTS to dps in some shape or form. The Only exception was OW. So… not sure what youre on about.
Her pistol is pretty OP but Mercy is an exception. Her damage contribution is via the damage boost she gives the players she pockets. Mercy was never meant to be a heal bot even in OW 1. You’re supposed to play her as a pocket on DPS.
Pre-rework she wasn’t a pocket, she was main-healer, and even post rework, it was a bit more complicated than that, if you watched good Mercys. There was a fair amount of variation in her playstyle.
You’re wrong. Mercy always was best played as a pocket. I’m sorry, you never climbed high enough to know that.
Contrary to your belief there is such a thing that people who play lots of games like me do. It’s called min/maxing basically what is the maximum amount of utility you can provide with the minimum amount of work. Otherwise known as Metas.
You’re free to play any hero any way you want but until you learn to play the hero optimally you won’t climb the ranks. If you don’t care that’s fine. Im just stating facts.
Most supports have always just been DPS who can heal. The original roster was literally Lucio, Zen and Mercy. 2 heroes who heal casualty and damage most of the time, and one hero that’s admittedly there for people who aren’t used to shooters or who don’t want to play like that. Then we got Ana who, is quite offensive with her kit and can take down squishes with 2-3 shots these days, but had more dmg in the past. Then there was Moira. And imma leave it at that. Then Brigitte who literally has to do damage for half of her healing at least. Then Bap who can output as much dmg as a soldier while simultaneously healing. Finally, we have Kiriko, who’s healing is average, but her damage potential is quite considerable if you can land her Kunai. So yeah, to get the full potential out the vast majority of the support roster, you have to be as much of a DPS as you are a support/healer.
TF2 and Paladins have both conventional low dps healers, so I don’t understand your argument.
Cause they were too much MOBA. Overwatch is more team shooter, doesn’t mean they can’t have fun non dps focused healers. Overwatch launched with Mercy and Lucio lol.
I mean we have dps healers hybrid now, Queue time are still long. Making more will not fix it.
