Support ability buffet

I’m a great fan of the game Divinity Original Sin II, and in that game they have many supporting abilities I find really interesting and fun. Some we basically already have in Overwatch, but some are still open to explore. I intend to list most of them here and then I’d like people to use these to either create or recreate a support (or maybe tank/dps?) for the game.

Adrenaline - Gives more action points
Armor of Frost - Gives a character a magical shield (like Sym’s old single target shield)
Arcane Stitch - Fullt restores a character’s shields and removes all status effects
Blinding Radiance - Enemies in close proximity becomes blinded
Blood Sucker - Sucks the blood around you and heals you
Bone Cage - Amount of armor generated is based on the amount of dead next to you
Chloroform - Puts a target to sleep (Ana’s Sleep Dart)
Cryogenic Stasis - Puts a character in an ice block that removes status effects and heals them (like Mei’s Ice Block)
Cleanse Wounds - Removes status effects
Death Wish - Target Character gets damage boost that correlates with lost health
Decaying Touch - Target character takes damage from healing (kinda like a harsher Ana Nade)
Deflective Barrier - Projectiles are redirected back towards enemy (Genji’s Deflect)
Dome of Protection - Creates a dome that regenerates shields and armor
Dominate Mind - A charm, enemy becomes friendly
Equalize - All characters in target area gets health(armor/shields equally distributed
Evasive Aura - Chance of dodging shots increase with 90%
Farsight - Increases the range of characters’ shots and skills
Favorable Wind - Increases the speed of your party (Lucio’s Crossfade)
First Aid - Heals target small amount and clears status effects
Forced Exchange - Switches health/armor/shields between target characters
Fortify - Gives a character armor (Brig’s Repair Pack)
Guardian Angel - 50% damage is redirected from ally to you
Haste - Makes target faster and gives them more action points, basically allowing them to use more abilities in a round
Healing Ritual - Sends a bolt of healing from one ally to the other in a certain range (kinda like Valkyrie healing)
Healing Tears - Gives you three healing tears, every time an ally walks close to you they get one and are massively healed
Infect - Deals damage to enemy and will spread to anyone near them
Last Rites - Sacrifice your own health to bring an ally back to life (kinda like Mercy’s Rez)
Living on the Edge - Prevents target character from dying for a couple of seconds (Baptiste’s Immortality Field)
Mend Metal - Gievs armor to the whole team (Brig’s Rally)
Mosquito Swarm - Deals damage to character and heals yourself (kinda like Moira’s primary)
Peace of Mind - Target character gets stats increased while being immune to certain status effect like charmed
Planar Gateway - Creates two gateways to walk between (Sym’s Teleporter)
Rain - Douses fire
Rallying Cry - Massive healing dependent on amount of nearby allies
Restoration - Healing that ticks over time (kinda like Moira’s and Ana’s primary healing)
Silencing Stare - Removes magic abilities in a cone (kinda like EMP)
Skin Graft - Resets all cooldowns
Smoke Cover - Creates a cloud of smoke
Soul Mate - All healing/armor/shields you receive is sent to targeted ally
Soothing Cold - Gives a small amount of shield to all allies (kinda like Sym’s old Shield Generator)
Tornado - Moves randomly around the battlefield and removes surfaces like fire and water, also removes negative status effects and reveals invisible characters
Vampiric Hunger - Lets a target character have 50% life steal for a short period of time

Other interesting abilities:
Crippling Blow - Makes characters unable to move or use movement abilities
Play Dead - Appear to be dead
Shackles of Pain - All damage you receive is also redirected to target character

i could use some ideas there, but some would definetly need rebalancing

Oh obviously, these are taken pretty straight off. It’s more for inspiration than copy. I kinda like the idea Dome of Protection, Cleanse Wounds, Smoke Cover and Vampiric Hunger myself, but I would definitely change them up a bit.

Cure: Combination HoT and cc resist buff. Cleanses pre-existing cc.

I mean, it’s a part of several abilities in DOS and I really think OW desparetely needs it. Any specific ability from the list you liked? :slight_smile:

I think the Vampiric Hunger sounds cool. Giving an ally temporary lifesteal is something I’d like to see in a future healer.

I think it could also be tinkered with to be a new kind of enemy debuff (damaging the debuffed enemy heals you). Which do you think would be more viable?

It could be a nice offensive support ultimate, as an ability it might be a little hard to balance. I do think we need more different debuffs rather than just stuns.

It would be a very cool ult! Imagine creating an AoE that adds lifesteal to your attacks.

Divinity is a masterpiece of giving you tons of utility for any situation

I kinda would like to see Decaying Touch too, but I guess it could induce a lot of toxicity towards supports who fail to see their teammates affected in time.

All of these look really fun overall. I dont know who to talk about. Not all of them seem to be fitting though. A most requested thing was a cleanse but we dont really see it because there arent many debuffs in the game. Only hack and anti nade. That said, smoke grenades seems cool for ow.

Yeah, some obviously don’t work (blood sucker is worthless without blood) but some I feel have potential. Like, maybe Brig should have the “Guardian Angel” instead of Repair Pack? It would make her more of a protector. And smoke grenades are pretty cool, kinda wish Hanzo got that instead of Storm Arrow. We really need more shield abilities too instead of more armor. First Aid should have been Mercy’s E. And I’ve wanted Brig’s bash to cripple more than stun for ages.

Play Dead could be pretty interesting for a flanker character… :laughing:

Mad Milk status effect from TF2.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with the game, it’s a throwable projectile that explodes on contact, covering all nearby enemies in milk. Teammates attacking covered enemies heal 60% of damage dealt.

I think Mercy would be pretty worthless with a simple cleanse idk. It would have to do something more. Maybe 20% damage reduction for 2 seconds after the cleanse?

Kinda reminds me of the Vampiric Hunger, I do think the concept could be worth exploring!
