I have a few ideas for support abilities for future heroes.
Scanner: Scans a ally for missing health, then heals them for their missing health.
for instance if an ally roadhog was missing 400 health, than you could scan him for however long it would take to heal him for 400. or you could only scan for long enough to heal 100 then heal him for 100.
Basically you scan a hero than once you stop scanning them you will start healing them. the missing portion of a heroes health bar would be filled with a faint white while your scanning them than that faint white will start filling up with health.
the upside to this ability is that the scanning radius would be rather high and could possibly hit multiple heroes in an area in front of the hero. the downside is that this would take longer than automatically healing them.
i picture this being an alt fire ability with the main fire being your damage for enemy heroes.
Health Pack Dispenser: The hero would drop down a health pack dispenser, that dispenses out a health pack. like a regular health pack but it refills faster and heals less. like say 200 health and refills every 8 seconds. this way you could drop one near your allies and leave them be while healing allies on another part of the map (assuming this isn’t your only healing ability)
the dispenser couldn’t be used by enemies heroes but could be destroyed. if sombra hacked it, it would be disabled like a super charger or turret.
you could have 2 charges, and the amount healing could depend on how many dispensers you had out. so only having one out would heal 200 and having two out would heal 100 each. so you would have to decide on weather or not you wanted health dispensers in multiple areas or just one powerful one.
Shrink: Make an allied hero and all of their abilities, movement, velocity, etc 25% of their size for several seconds, and pitch up their sounds accordingly. This will allow them to sneak around better, avoid damage better, make everyone die laughing, and make for hilarious play of the games.
There were a few ideas thrown into the original sym megathread that would make a fun new pseudo-healer.
Applying 75 temporary shields per second (same health unit as lucio sound barrier/ the best defense), can “heal” missing health and “overheal” up to 1 tick. Decays by 1hp per second when not channeled.
A zarya shield that applies to enemies rather than allies. Cool interactions like blocking heals on a target being focused. (rein) or putting it moira/ana to block a main healer until bubble is destroyed or decayed
I like these skills because they counter abilities like anti-heal/goat healers, and also have plenty of counterplay (such as emp)
What do you think about possible “escape” ability: when used it creates shadow-copies of player, which are acting like bots, but can’t do damage. I mean that are shooting, using skills, can be killed and healed etc, but their damage is zero. So, when used - player can run away, while enemy is confused by clones? IDK about cooldown ( about 20-25 second i suppouse ) and duration ( 5-8 seconds ), but i think this would be pretty cool ability to have in game.

Yea, I look at other games I’ve played and it seems like the thing Overwatch really hasn’t attempted yet is a proactive healer. There’s parts of that sort of it in other heroes, like Brigitte and Zarya, but it’d be cool to see a healer designed completely around that concept.
I had thought that would be a good way to rework Symmetra into a healer, but they decided to go dps.
I’m actually curious as to how many different ways they can implement a healer role in Overwatch. I’m quite confident that they wouldn’t have enough to match the DPS roster.
Healing grenade launcher. Lob AoE healing up over and around things
Hero with a heal burst. Activate the ability and emit an AoE burst of healing centered on the hero, healing all heros in range for a set amount. Could tune either direction- infrequent but strong bursts, or more frequent but less impactful. Both have merits. Little if any healing provided in the kit outside this burst.
Deployable healing hero. Think like sym- but with healing deployables. Could be single target or aoe. Could have a burst mechanic as well if AoE similar to the healburst idea above- a constsnt trickle of healing with the ability to spike it up if needed. Maybe they stack, maybe they dont. Lots of possibilities.
Hero that uses their own life to heal someone. Maybe as an actual consumable resource. Maybe via other more constructive means.
Not great at coming up with names but…
Ability 1: The hero targets an enemy and drains them of a certain amount of health, they can then use this ability again to target an ally and give them the health stolen, or they can consume it for themselves.
Ability 2: The hero targets an ally and gives them something(similar to Harmony Orb), this will give that ally healing whenever they damage an enemy.
Ability 3: This hero’s primary way of healing grows stronger whenever an ally near them is eliminated(up to a certain %). This hero would be an off-support but the more your ally’s die their heals would become pretty big. This hero would pair very well with Mercy.
Ability 4: This ability would be usable on your ally’s deployables and shields to repair them and keep them up, but it is on a CD. This can be applied to allies, but instead of healing them, it will amplify the next ability they use. Making it stronger or faster.(Damaging abilities would come out stronger, non-damaging abilities will gain a speed increase.)
Really all I can come up with.
