recently built my pc, using a 5600x and a 6800xt. whenever i start up overwatch and load into the practice range im capped at basically <100fps and my cpu usage jumps up to 100%. After 5-10 minutes then my fps goes back to what it should be and the cpu usage goes down. Already tried resetting the shader cache on amd adrenaline and deleting the cache folder in overwatch and uninstalling and reinstalling and the problem persists.
it is building shaders let it do it for like 10 mins
yeah but surely there’s a better fix than having to wait 10 minutes every single time i load ow
It actually only happens once after game and driver updates unless you some software that cleans direct X cache for you.
It’s the same for me with rx570, but only when I reinstall/update the drivers. It needs like 5-10 minutes to be smooth. Until that, it’s stuttering like crazy and the fps jumping everywhere. It’s AMD for you. They are trash, Nvidia never “built shaders” for me in OW.
this is a known issue to apparently everyone who uses amd but not blizzard, i’ve had the same exact issue with shader cache never compiling correctly running a rx 6750xt, and there’s been basically radio silence from devs on this one. it’s not an amd issue it’s an OW2 issue other games don’t do this, and it’s even happened to some people with nvidia cards.
I’m experiencing this now. I had a 5700 and OW2 ran like a champ locked at 165fps, never had to compile. Changed to a 5700XT (for testing purposes), installed a new AMD driver, and now I’m sitting at 25 - 35fps. I’ve tried every trick I can find including the command line to set my cores to physical cores and clearing my shaders in AMD Adrenaline. But not sure it’s just a Blizzard problem because Quake Champions pauses on startup and tells me it’s compiling shaders for about 3 minutes.
I haven’t tried letting OW2 run for 10 minutes before I play because that’s too painful. I guess I can try to roll back my AMD driver.
Yea, most games do the shader caching at the startup where it makes sense to do so.
