Over my time playing Overwatch, I’ve come up with a few things that I believe could help the game as a whole. There are quite a few, so I’m going to be dividing them up into their own sections. Happy reading!
New Medal System
What's Wrong With Medals?
Since I started playing Overwatch, the medal system hasn’t made a whole lot of sense to me. Sure, it can make you feel great about your performance. However, it can also make you feel as though you are under-performing when you really aren’t. It’s a bit disheartening.
I have also, as a support main, noticed an issue which I like to refer to as “healing wars.” As many of you know, properly playing a support involves properly balancing out damage and healing. However, if your team ends up with more than one main support, often times those supports will end up fighting over gold healing. This disrupts their healing and damage balance.
I’m not sure if anything like this happens with DPS or Tanks… Though I would assume not, since damage is a bit different from healing. However, I am aware that the current medal system further promotes toxicity in some instance. This is especially seen when someone rubs their gold eliminations into the faces of their teammates and blames them for a loss. This, of course, is never fun.
What Could Be Done?
I would personally love if medals, instead of being compared to your teammates within a given game, could be compared with the average stats of the hero you’re playing around your MMR or SR. That, or you could pick which rank averages you would like to have your stats compared to. This could help promote overall improvement by allowing the player to set certain goals, while also helping to reduce toxicity slightly.
This, of course, isn’t a foolproof idea. I am aware that much more thought would need to go into a rework like this. I would love to hear any input you may have on this idea.
In-Depth Statistics
What "In-Depth Statistics"?
Exactly what you think! I, and I’m sure many others, would love if Blizzard would provide average statistics for the playerbase to view. This would make it easier to determine things such as the state of a hero, differences between ranks, and so on. Sites like Overbuff just aren’t as accurate as we want it to be.
If Blizzard provided these statistics themselves, the players wouldn’t have to use possibly faulty data in order to support their claims. It would help ease some unrest within the forums a bit, and the like. It would also have a similar effect to the medal rework mentioned above, making it easier to set realistic goals.
There is also a little something else related to data that I believe would be relatively useful. It may sound dumb, but please try to hear me out. It can be hard to track your own statistics accurately sometimes, and I think being able to export the raw numbers from each individual game in some way. It would be so much easier to track your progress this way. At least the way I see it. What do you think?
Customizable UI
Why Would This Matter?
I find myself commonly missing important information because I can’t see the kill feed. This is due to the fact that, since I was born, my right eye has been sort of defective. This makes it harder for me to look to the right of the screen.
It made me wonder… What if we were able to customize the layout of our UI? If I have this issue, I’m sure that many others have similar issues. Perhaps it’s the opposite, and they have a harder time seeing things on the left of the screen. That would be horrible.
I would personally adore a change like this. Even simply being able to change the side of the screen that specific information is seen on would help me out a lot.
Switch Servers
Why Would We Need This?
Simple! This section is actually going to be very short as a result. Say you’re having trouble with a specific server… Why not have the option to switch servers instead of needing to restart? I know, it’s something very insignificant. It would just make things slightly easier.
New PTR System
What Would This Include?
I think that there are currently many issues with the PTR system, though this might just be me. It doesn’t look like the devs look into feedback as much as they should when it comes to changes and additions… The system overall just seems wonky. I do have a few suggestions, though I’m not sure if they’ll be accepted exactly.
New Feedback Section
I am aware that there is a PTR feedback section within the forums. Perhaps if they added a section specifically for those who have actually played the PTR since a given change would help the devs narrow things down a little. I understand that people who may not have gotten the chance to actually play the PTR may have solid input, but those who have actually had the chance will have more solid input.
Suggestion System
The forums can definitely be a bit hectic at times, and finding proper suggestions within them can be a bit of a chore. This could easily be fixed by adding a section on the forums for suggestions. It would also be nice if they could add a proper voting system to this section, helping highlight good ideas over bad ideas.
Nitpicking Time!
I have a hard time messing around with the PTR at times due to the fact that my controls don’t sync with the main game properly. I’ve changed my settings drastically since I was last in the PTR, and copying them over is a little bit of a pain. I would love if the controls could be properly synced.
Cosmetic Randomization
Cosmetic What Now?
I know, I know. This is also something relatively trivial. Though, I do believe that it would be a nice addition. Victory poses, for example, are something that are a little tedious to switch out. In fact, I don’t think I ever switch mine out anymore. It would be nice if we could randomize these in a similar fashion to highlight intros! This could work with almost any type of cosmetic.
On top of this, I would love to see the addition to a sort of randomized playlist. This way, we could select the highlights, victory poses, or maybe even skins that we like the most randomized! I know skins mean a little less now since you can pick one out before a match, but I would still enjoy this.
Thank you for your time! I would love to hear what your thoughts are on any of these topics. Let’s all work together in order to create a happier and healthier Overwatch.
