Suggestions for a Soldier 76 buff

76 has been out of the meta since forever, he is kind of a throw pick right now. He is a damage dealer yet his damage is too low, he is hitscan yet struggles to kill a Pharah, and he has such a big hitbox for a damage hero. McCree was Soldier’s biggest competitor, both were weak for a long time, however McCree was buffed and Soldier was ignored, making him the better hitscan. The only thing Soldier 76 has that other hitscans and most damage heroes don’t is his mobility, yet it is nothing compared to Tracer’s and Genji’s, making 76 completely useless compared to all the other damage heroes.

I know his helix rockets were buffed recently but he is still too weak, Ashe and Genji recieved major buffs recently so it is only fair that 76 should also be given some buffs. Now here’s my ideas to bring Soldier 76 to McCree’s level and also to make him a good and reliable damage hero:

  • Increase his rifle’s fire rate, just like you did with McCree’s.
  • Decrease his falloff damage.
  • (Optional minor buff) increase his ammo, adding 5 more is enough.

Let me know if you have other suggestions.

at this point, I couldn’t care less how they balance this game :sleepy: its not like it can honestly get worse after Echo

Soldier 76

Automatic Pulse Rifle

  • Fire rate increased from 9 to 10.8 bullets per second roughly 20% faster fire rate
  • Ammunition clip size increased from 25 to 30
  • Minimum fall-off damage decreased from 10 to 14 per bullet _(50% to 70%)

Sprint

  • Reloads pulse rifle after a 2.75 second duration

Tactical Visor

  • If the player’s reticle is within the critzone of the target, bullets will deal twice as much damage just as if he was not using his ultimate.

  • If the player’s reticle is within the hitbox but not the critzone of the target, bullets gain a 1.5x damage multiplier.

I’d like to see how he feels with the ammo increase.

Another suggestion I’ve heard before was to tweak visor to allow headshots, but not automatically hit them. So it autoaims bodyshots just like it currently does, but if you’re aiming in such a way that would normally have gotten a headshot, you still get it. As it stands now visor is almost a flat nerf to your ability to kill anything but squishies.

Honestly, the only thing that makes tactical visor a good ult is its range.

He is a good dps and has solide pickrate on all elos. It’s just not easy to master him.

Increase Ammo to 30 is a interesting suggestion. Other else no. Tactical Visor shouldnt be “Press Q to ez win”.
Aimbot gives Soldier zero spreading and almost instant reloading, that’s enough. Just ask Ana for Nano or Orisa for dmg boost, if you want team kill.

Hold+Aim RClick homing rocket.

I play Soldier76 and Ashe as my only DPS (new to DPS) but used to play tank. I found the change to his helix rocket quite significant against the likes of hog and barriers in general, from both sides of the gun.

I don’t really think he can be buffed much without becoming OP in some scenarios because he controls space on some maps like a tank (thinking orisa here) with his rate of fire and damage per shot and he has good range. His problem can be getting final blows but his damage output is pretty good and if you stop holding left-click and pause now and again to reduce the spread he can take out DPS pretty consistently. He is good at everything but master of nothing which is ok.

I’d rather see his accuracy spread reduced just faintly, honestly, or even… greater Sprint speed and deeper animation cancels on reload into his abilities. The first brings him more in line with McCree and Ashe and the second plays upon his niche a bit more.

Greater fire rate just means less relative uptime and even more ridiculous short-range tankbusting (where it’s none too difficult to get near to his maximum throughput of 380 dps or 1k damage per clip), wading into Reaper’s territory in a way that may make his niche more… contradictory than versatile. Meanwhile, a 20% ammo increase would be oddly powerful with Tac Visor, which I think is about perfect as is, especially after the buffs against falloff and the returned per-shot damage.

And I rather like the consistency of the 50% max damage falloff for all hitscans (except Ashe’s scoped fire). I’d rather not throw in a single outlier without the excuse of a scope shot or the like.

I remember when 20 damage used to be broken and must pick now it apparently isn’t enough to deal with Pharahs?

because there is a winged bimbo flying behind her.

Enough with the power creep. Soldier 76 is a good 5 or 6 buffs stronger than he was back in the day when he was last meta.

Yes. I am so upset that Blizzard released Mercy. Pharah never had a winged bimbo behind her when game launched but like 2 months ago Mercy was released.

Oh hell no, the winged bimbo jumped ship to echo now. Pharah is now the small, swat friendly mosquito again

I think his damage is fine. I think he needs to be better at repositioning since that seems to be his Niche. Increase Sprint speed by an additional 10%

i think soldier76 is just fine atm…

His helix buff was sensational.

Yeah funny story. Here’s a tip. Shoot the bimbo

Half of them are reverted.
New were aimbot can lock on Junkrat’s tire, CD Helix and increase fire-rate by holding long till the mag is empty (although that spreads wide)

You are better at stating the obvious than you are at sarcasm. Good stuff.

What in the actual hell are you guys on about, soldier is fantastic now lol.
