Stylosa: Smurfing is a problem

So just let me make my 5th? alt account and become part of it.

The message is not wrong, but he looks like a giant hypocrite here.

He doesn’t look like one, he is one.

A lot of players smurf nowadays, I got used to it since league of legends, if you’re good enough you’ll eventually climb tbh only thing I hate are duo boosters.

He is a giant hypocrite and will do anything for views.

I will add though after watching the video, now I just think he is dumb that it took him this long to realize it was a problem. He sounds like he has genuinely discovered it for the first time.

That is one of the reasons I say smurfing is not a problem. You avoid hypocrisy; however, even if I did not own a few alts, iz not a big deel. The report system alone justifies smurfing, imo.

That’s the guy we have repping us (UK) at OWWC :frowning:

Ever since he began his “coaching videos” and translated them into Apex, like he had any clue, what he was doing, i lost a lot of respect for him. But anyway, right here he is just leveling in QP, smashing people with a Widow. Within no time he will be higher MMR and get other QP matches, he is level 4-5 ffs. Litterally has played under 10 games by now… If anything he is showing the exact situation, where if you do as him and rekt people, you aren´t a smurf, cause you will be carried out fast by winning many placement matches and performing well. He is 100% addressing a problem with alternate accounts not smurfs.

A smurf doesn´t try to rank up by dominating games, they purposefully get as low a rank they can, to then keep on throwing some games and Dominating another vs very low skilled opponents.

But if you Keep buying alt accounts to stay
In low skill matches, then you can smurf without throwing. Doesn’t matter if the match maker brings you out of these games if you can just keep getting new accounts. This is not Stylosas first alt account. It serves no purpose other than short term noob stomping

Except that is completely unrealistic, no one is bulk buying accounts at 20-30USD a pop to stomp people for 10-20 QP games. Even Stylosa admits it is his 5, through 2-3 years and many were made for good reasons, 1 or 2 for flexing only 1 for dps only i think and his main, now this one. So yeah quite simply, it is unrealistic to even think this goes on, mind you stylose is a successfull man, he earns quite a bit through this and many of the things he does and he only has 5. You think any normal person that just plays the game and hasn´t got a good job linked to it would wanna keep wasting 20-30USD for less than a couple of hours of fun ?

the only reason for anyone to get a new account is if their old account got suspended and even then it’s stupid.
there’s really no excuse for it.

i don’t give a single flying F**** if you’re gonna lose sr on a new character or whatever, it still isn’t right to have multiple accounts.

the most logical and worth reasoning you could have for it is if there’s 2 people sharing a computer and both play ranked and they don’t want to share an account, other than that you can just go F**** right off.

I stopped playing my alt accounts because of smurfs. It makes sense, I swear!

He doesnt care about it. Smurfing is hot topic so he made a video about it. That is how Youtube works.

If you keep buying new accounts, like Deykar said, you can just do it over and over and over and over and over ruining people’s games repeatedly. It doesn’t matter if “eventually” he will be put close to his real SR. The problem is everything up to that.

Also, alts encourage toxicity in multiple ways:

  • they’re accounts that they usually don’t care about anyway, so what’s preventing them from saying toxic things? Their actual account is unaffected.
  • By this same token, it can be used as a form of throwing by being toxic like this, discouraging teammates even if you seem to be trying, making smurfing via derank much easier to disguise
  • Reports are not shared across accounts, so if you think you’re close to a ban on one, you just play another and continue to be toxic on that one
  • Being toxic towards teammates - whether your intention is to derank or not - also affects them. That effect carries on to other games, making it more likely for them to lose because they’re more likely to be angry in that new match as well, perpetuating a cycle of negativity that ripples across matches.

Do not pretend that alts aren’t overall bad for the health of the competitive scene. There’s some benefits to having one or two alts for very specific purposes that don’t impede on others’ enjoyment of the game, but they should be the exception, not the rule.

Why does it matter though? If they are the same rank?

13 minutes and he doesn’t mention once that most people are not filthy derankers trying to stomp lesser skilled players but people wanting to play other characters in ranked at the appropriate rank with said characters. Just sad.

The devs “defense” on smurfs is that their MMR is high so they win huge amount of SR and lose very small amount of SR. But if they intentionally lose every single match then this argument is invalid and pointless.

Yeah sure imagine the gm support player pick up Widow all of the sudden and ruin many games until they reach diamond.

Throwing is as bad as smurfing.

They need to soft ban alt accounts. What this does is only match alt accounts with alt accounts.

Ip bans homie.

Sure alternate accounts aren´t actually good for it, but we have no way of combating it, when it is online and people are anonymous. There are many legitimate reasons that completely justifies wanting to own a different account.

So unless you want all your personal data linked to every account you own, then there is no reason to keep complaining, cause the issues isn´t realistic and it isn´t easily combated.

While it does show a criminal lack of self-awareness, at least it raises the profile of the issue.
