stylosa has been critical of ow2 the moment it released. this has nothing to do with content creators being fanboys. if anything, most content creators have voiced concerns with skin pricing, battle pass and balance since the start.
Yes, I think this was mentioned in the blog post.
Baking in an equal-weight assumption into a matchmaker without dynamically adjusting it with ML or at least some manual intervention (maybe at least weekly adjustment of weight ratios) screams “We’re stupid and proud of it” to me.
Don’t want to ruin your day, but Stylosa bashed competitive matchmaking from day 1 pretty much, let alone the monetization of the game, which he was speaking out against from the second it was announced. Most other content creators were pretty much the same.
Game is already declining now everyone is hoping the shiny white knight Microsoft arrives and saves the world.
I love when some dudes actually, unironically, wait for a CC like him to post a video about something many of us already knew.
Like IDK dude, how many streamers does someone need to watch (just clips even) to see how bad the artificial decay and SR changes were “working” ?
IMO it never really had any. I think that the official ranked modes for any game are usually garbage, and that if you want a competitive experience, that you should seek scrims, PUGs, dedicated community orgs, local tourneys, etc. Which is why it’s really disappointing that the third party competitive scene for OW is more or less dead.
I mean realistically what do people expect Microsoft is gonna do if they take over? New staff? Make their own personal changes with the shop/game? Not change it and let it go how it is?
Love how he exposes how much of an ape group the devs are . What in the heck is ATVI doing ? Fire these incapable ”devs” and get some real capable devs that know what the heck they doing .
It’s incredible at this point how unskilled and how bad these dudes are in charge of the game .
Why dont they just make MMR visible? Lets all have a little number next to us and see how well the matchmaker did or didnt do. Why does it have to be a secret…
Why dont they just make MMR visible?
Its easier to hide some data and claim a lot of things about it then, than having in exposed and someone pointing out flaws in their design base on this more than feelings, especially since feelings are foregin to corpo lifestile, but numbers do talk.
I usually segway into having the matchmaker checked by a third party and blah blah blah. I’m honestly tired of repeating myself on the topic tbh. It’s a really bad match maker. I swear that decades old games have better matchmakers than ow1 had and ow2 MM is a major downgrade from the first ow somehow. I have no idea how they do it.
Edit: Found
I’ve harped on this over and over. Mercer’s matchmaker is garbage and they should have brought in a third party early on or a new team to tackle it. He is too close to this matchmaker and will not let changes happen to it. Unless they remove him from his role or convince him to back off, no major changes will happen.
Even funnier if you consider that this kind of thing exists since 2019
Like who actually considered that they shouldn’t had role compairson in RQ to begin with? Maybe that’s why OQ were more balanced on MMR.

To be fair, they didn’t have a super tank in the mix.
To make you spam games. Thats it.
Well, just proves how planned RQ was. I mean, I praise them for fixing but 3 years is a long time for it. If they take 3 years to fix the issues they created, I don’t see a bright future for OW.
They need to fix their internal communication and do a proper planning otherwise I don’t think that the current state is enough to keep folks “waiting” for changes
Here was the thing, I just assumed they were matching DPS with DPS, Tanks with Tanks, and Support with Supports for the games.
I was legit surprised they were not.
I praise them for fixing
Yeah, but it was a shock it was a thing in the first place.
I don’t even think the fix will do that much honestly.
Well, on matchmaking could help. But due the increased range, maps and heroes not being ready for 5v5 the “improvement” will be negligible on most situations.
I mean, is bizarre how they broke the game in several ways. Things that weren’t even broken or not even got changes since prior to RQ.
The branch was way outdated or severely messed up. Both reinforces lack of communication and planning

I think they got the “so, PvP will be released on this day” kinda dumped on them, and they were scrabbling to make something, anything work.
It looks like it was thrown together without planning at the last minute, because I think in many ways it was.
I would not want to have been a coder for the project. There would have been some late late hours there.
I suspect there is a problem lurking in the matchmaker around “minimum viable game” which burnt me on a matchmaker I had built for another game.
If you are measuring how bad a game is (which sounds funny, but the maths is easier for “least bad” rather than most good).
You know… add the distance between the players MMR, add the ping times, subtract how long they have been waiting, and pick the lowest. (seriously, it is kinda how matchmaking works)
You have a level which you set as “games which suck more than this don’t happen”
But, if you are measuing it on a “how far is this player from the other players in the match” and add them all together…
When you remove a player… you have to adjust that score, and I don’t think they have.
I would rather release 5v5 on experimental or even soft lock the 6th person.
Heck, groups are still 6 folks bro. That’s insane. Is like they could simply cut the 6th member and update graphics and maps on the go. Yet the game would be functional.
They decided get rid of something “workable” when they had a Frankenstein on their hands

I suspect they realized they had lost too many tank players, and it was easier to find 5 people for a match rather than 6.
Matchmaking for smaller groups is easier, and people were complaining about lack of impact in their games.
5v5 looks real good on paper. But, the reality is somewhat different I agree.
