I ranked into bronze 5 then after the “fix” I went to bronze 2. I’ve been playing with the same friends the whole time and they’ve moved up to gold and platinum and now I can’t play with some of them. I’m often the highest healer in the game so I don’t understand how I can be left behind so bad. The last 3 times I ranked it was bronze 2
Issue is Tanks and DPS have a larger population than support. They can rank because there are more bad players to leap frog. You stuck because support queue is dead.
So someone mentioned that there are more oppurtunities to leap frog bad players in dps/tanks… thas very true.
Also tho it jus inherently harder to rank up as support in low ranks. Elims and damage and deaths and other individual stats do matter in the ranking system. Its not just about wins and losses.
Thats part of the reason why we see so many dps focused moiras or lucios in low ranks. They want the damage and elims. (Its also cuz dps players get tired of their queues and wanna play faster- so they pick support or flex and then play it with their dps mindest- but thats a diff thread)
If you wanna rank up in support- pick a hero that you can get some damage and kills in too. Dont focus on it- cuz thatll get your team dead and cause a loss— but dont play a passive lucio with only heals on either… or one trick mercy on heals with no damage boost… and expect to rise as fast as dps can. Even with the same wins.
Learn to kill as your support hero. Most of them are much better at it than people seem to think…
You dont have to hunt for the kills- just make sure if you get flanked you can handle it… theyll come to you.
Once you can properly kill as support-- you can then switch back and forth to healing/supporting to doing damage when the situation calls for it- and youll start climbing faster.
Also if your team goes down around you- and u can get away- go back toward spawn and meet them there. Get out of danger and keep your death count down. (If youre team is still there- you gotta go down with the ship- but if they dead- fall back and regroup) itll also makes sure ur not dying after them and in turn spawning late. So they dont run in without ya and get no heals- costing them their lives and you some needed ult charge and stats. Thats a cycle that can repeat over and over once its started— so fall back and avoid it all together. Save yourself the death.
All that said- It will always take longer to get out of low ranks as support. There are just to many intangebles the ranking system cant account for.

That explains a lot. I’m stuck in Bronze 1. I have been stuck for the last 3 cycles. I get 20 to 30 kills avg and am doing 10k+ healing, always more than damage, yet I can’t rank out of Bronze to save my life. I started doing the things you mention before I even saw this post, and admittedly, I climbed to Bronze 1 fast that way. I just can’t get out of it, lol. It sucks, too, when matchmaking puts me with players that have little to no game sense and we lose, I can’t get good stats that way. It’s frustrating.

Well, the consensus of nerds who claim to have tested the system repeatedly is that your SR is heavily dependent on your personal performance.
Not going to attempt to relay the details, look up the videos for that, but basically, it measures you against others that play that char as well as your own past stats.
What you want to look at is your avg/10 min numbers. if you exceed your avg healing and are below your avg deaths, you’ll climb, if below you fall, if the same, you stay where you are.
It’s possible your friends have been exceeding their numbers in recent games, while you have just maintained yours. That would result in them gaining rank, and you staying the same.
Also, we have to remember, at some point, we reach our plateau. Not everyone can climb from bronze 5 to top 500. We all reach the height of where our personal skill can take us… and generally that’s a lot lower than we think it should be.

I’m also stuck in Bronze 1 for three cycles and I’m so confused because I had been impacted by the Bronze 5 bug twice and now I don’t know if there’s another bug or if I’m literally just stagnant

That’s true. I’m happy to say that I finally got out of Bronze and am in Silver!

If what you guys are saying is true, why after only 5 games I became silver 2 in overwatch 2, but 90 games in dmg bronze 3? I don’t think what your saying is right. I played as support in overwatch sometimes, though I didn’t put hours in at all. Only messed around with Bridgette never even got a rating. I think it’s multi factor and they still trying to sort it out.
