(STRAWPOLL) 5v5 or 6v6

So this is the first time i’ve made a Strawpoll so tell me if it doesn’t work. Im interested which formation the community leans toward.

EDIT: I’ve edited a “Doesn’t matter option” inside. I don’t know if you can switch to it after voting.

We need the power of data now more than ever.

We should also list the pros and cons of 5v5 and 6v6

Why isn’t there a “doesn’t matter/either one/not sure til I play it” option

I can’t say I like either one better without having played one of the two choices

While I would like it if the devs would listen to us, I think it’s pretty clear that the tank matter has been decided. For what it is worth, this was a deal breaker for me.

I think there’s something to be said here. 5v5 will be healthier for the game overall in the long run. 6v6 is just what we’re used to so people will vote for it. Keep in mind how much better tanks will be to play, balance changes will be easier to make, less emphasis on synergy and more on individual play and improvement.

I will try 5v5 and make my final decision then. Things don’t look good with it though.

I reckon 5v5 with all the changes they’ve given. 6v6 is good for sure if they changed nothing and made tanks lonely and awfully useless due to that.

5v5 is better for solo queue IMO with these changes

For the team game. Really?

No, it doesn’t look good. And given that they’ve pretty much given their OWL off-tanks their walking papers today, I don’t expect it to change.

Here’s some more data :+1:

It’s a team game but there are often many times where games are unwinnable because of teammates. 5v5 still has a whole bunch of team emphasis cuz you still have 4 other people. It’s just that your teammates mistakes will affect you a little less, as well as their good plays.

I mean, we use a skill rating system right?

PREACH! its a massive problem with current overwatch and is kinda why I hate playing it sometimes.

I enjoy 6 v 6. And I’ve been vocally against solo tanking in the past (when it was 1-3-2). But I think 5 v 5 may be a good, healthy change that favors tanks.

Without worrying about stacking of tank abilities, tanks can get meaningful and needed buffs again. No more need to gut D.Va because she’s too versatile an off tank, no more need to gut Orisa and Sigma because they play too well together. Yes, we lose Main-Off tank synergies like Rein/Zarya or Winston/D.va, but in exchange we should get tanks that actually feel like their kits make sense again.

Also, this opens the door for the designs of future tanks. If they don’t have to consider how every tank plays with a partner, it frees up a lot more design space for interesting kits. Look at Sigma. In a solo tank game, release Sigma is awesome and fun. Not to mention impactful, but with weaknesses that you can play around. But paired with Orisa in double shield he murdered the game and both tanks got gutted as a result. You don’t have to worry about that anymore. Which means tank kits for new tanks have a lot more freedom for combinations of new and interesting effects and abilities.

Does it change the way tanks get played? Probably. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. I think it will take some getting used to, certainly. But also that it may actually increase the ability for skill expression in EVERY role, particularly tank. And that’s not a bad thing in a competitive shooter.

One thing to be worth noted. The new tanks (like Mauga) may be made with 5v5 in mind and a sudden revert to 6v6 may hurt the characters balance before OW2 comes out. But who knows? Maybe they haven’t started to give numbers to the new tank characters yet.

I can’t play with my Tank Duo anymore.

No more cons needed, since this is a literal deal breaker.

most people want 6v6 blizzard!
reducing the number of players, makes the life of smurfs easier since they have more impact.

Yeah, how dare there be balance around team based play in a team based game.

This is turning to deathmatch. Not Overwatch

If you made a poll in 2014 about whether Overwatch should exist, after it was revealed at Blizzcon, people would have said no. People were mad from the day it was announced.

No one knows anything until they’ve played the game, all this is meaningless.
