Strange packet loss/connection lag since launch

So I’ve had a strange pattern of what feels like packet loss since launch - I’ve waited a few days to see if this was some sort of congestion with my ISP or Blizz servers but no change.

If anyone has any experience with reading trace routes could you tell me if you can spot an issue with this result?

I can see some “packet loss” but to my understanding its not bad ( or isn’t packet loss ) if it 0’s out by the next hop / or isn’t at the last one?

  • much appreciated ( sorry for the bad formatting pasting this txt in here )

There’s no packet loss in this test. You sent 320 packets and all 320 packets made it to the game server.

If you’re seeing lag spikes every few seconds, then you’d want to look at the netgraph in-game. Ctrl+Shfit+N turns it on/off. If you see orange spikes, those are latency issues. If you see white spikes, it’s a processing issue on the PC. Since the test looks good, I’m leaning towards the white spikes.

Oh hey!

Yeah I experience the orange blocks every 10-15 seconds, the spike is so bad it feels like a moment of packet loss for a second.

its been around since launch so I’m assuming theres some traffic congestion or something idk.

I don’t get simulation issues ( white blocks ) on the highest settings though I play on low for less input lag.

I used the web based looking glass MTR ( I know we don’t prefer this buuuut )
and the last cox ( my ISP ) hop has “packet loss” on it.

though I’m starting to have periods of relief from this so I think its congestion and It may remedy itself.

this same thing is happening to me and u all are refusing to acknowledge it, my ping would be fine then suddenly start spiking for no reason

Well since it took half a month for them to answer back, yeah they probably aren’t gonna acknowledge it.

Also experiencing the same issue, ongoing. Wrote it up here

Played tonight and the behavior shifted mildly but still consistent. Now instead of occurring every 5-10s, it happens every 30-40s. I won’t play competitive in this state so I don’t upset people and impact their rank, but I’m catching heat in QuickPlay games from others for something out of my control and its a bit frustrating.

yeah its actually crazy, some games would be fine but then after a while my ping just goes parabolic

Hmm, they may be happening between when the WinMTR is pinging (once per second vs the game’s 63/second), or they may be bad packets.

Regarding this, sure, it could be packet loss, but 30% is usually a disconnect every time.

I’m also playing on the Chicago server, but not experiencing any latency issues. So potentially, the bad packets are correct.

I’m a volunteer and just happened upon their post. The first couple of weeks there were like 100s of new threads a day and 95% of them are duplicate issues.

Perhaps you’re landing on another server for those. There are several servers available now for the US. ORD, LAX, GUE, and GUW.

As things move along - symptoms are either nonexistent or mild for a game or 2

gonna go with server load/traffic congestion on this one.
