Role queue play is exactly what you’d expect. It’s a place where people are desperate for wins enough that they actually want a role restricted version of the casual game mode, but are too scared of comp to play it. You will never see more full cheese comps (Orisa Sigma Mercy Baptiste Bastion Sym/Torb/Mei) comps than in role queue qp. I don’t want to speculate too much about the personality types it attracts but I definitely see way more try harding, saltiness and toxicity in role qp than I do in competitive. It’s kinda incredible when you think about it like that.
Then why are you even arguing about this not being an issue in “other MMOs” if they are not role-based. That’s the entire point. You’ve literally just invalidated your own argument.
Bastion’s .42% PR over the last 6 months in Quick Play would like a word with you. [Torb and Sym are down on the PR too - mostly it’s Widow Genji and McCree according to Overbuff
Seriously - QP is the most relaxed environment I’ve seen - RQ or no RQ. You probably just have bad luck mate.
…you’re still cherrypicking.
It’s not an issue UNTIL they force a role-based lock.
Like in WoW, before you were locked into a specific role, people did wonky things in order to do dungeon content. A DPS spec’d Paladin would often end up healing dungeons, for example. Or a Warrior could equip a shield / sword and just tank - even if they weren’t spec’d. And viola - no queue times.
Overwatch had roles, but you weren’t locked to pick a certain amount. And guess what? No long queue times.
And in other random MMOs I’ve played without role-locking systems it has been the same.
It’s not the roles that cause a queue time problem. It’s when you force your playerbase to need equal amounts when there aren’t equal amounts of something available.
And now you’re just cherry-picking. Go into a raid in Classic with an Arms or Fury Warrior and just equip a sword & shield and watch how fast they get one-shotted. Or take that Ret Pally and try to heal…both will fail…miserably.
Current MMO’s with current end-game content (unless you are massively over-geared) require hard defined Roles for a group to be successful. This now applies to OW as well. This is nothing new.
I mean, they broke the que time and utterly destroyed the definition of “quick play” by putting role que into a system that didn’t need it. That design should be for comp specifically. It’s no wonder Arcade is more popular, because of this oversight/blatant oversight.
No it doesn’t.
It just moves the problem around. The issue that people who want to dps end up waiting a long time between dps games still happens.
It just becomes a game of chicken where the dps players threaten to play without tanks / supports until the more reasonable ones of them relent.
Which means the less reasonable you are, the more you can play your favored role.
Everyone else then waits longer.
RoleQ just levels the field.
Not roleQ is worse.
It does indeed fix the queue times, as the queue time issue won’t be an issue if it’s removed. Whether the player plays dps, tank or support, it fixes the long wait times.
In which case it is a fix exactly on the level of “just pick tank if you want fast queue times” the same number of people then end up on a role they didn’t want.
So go queue for dps and tank. Maybe you will get some dps games, and your queue will be fast.
With the ability to play dps. Freedom queue. It fixes the queue times for dps players as well who can pick dps now without waiting long. ^^
Expect then you are running the threat of “I guess we are going in without tanks / supports” and you are back to biggest butthole wins.
The problem still exists.
All roleQ does is remove the biggest butthole gets to play the role they want, and every one else doesn’t.
Not a good way to run a game.
You can argue that it will create other problems but not that it doesn’t fix the dps queue time issues, as it does fix it.
Eh, comp has always had reliable compositions for me.
You clearly don’t know what that word means? I’ve responded to each point in your post. Where-as you have ignored several in mine.
Strawman. I didn’t say raid anywhere. I said “dungeon content” you are either incapable of reading or are purposely trying to misrepresent my arguments.
Apparently you know 0 about vanilla raiding. >.> A Ret Paladin can still be a buff / cleanse bot in raids.
Except Overwatch isn’t an MMO and doesn’t require specific roles for a team to be successful.
It fixes it in exactly the same way as me telling you to queue for not dps fixes it.
You can now have fast games.
No, picking tank or support won’t fix the dps queue times for me. As i am just avoiding the issue altogether. Though if the system is removed, the queue time issues won’t exist anymore and that’s a solution that doesn’t avoid the issue.
At the time, a younger me spent more time raiding in Vanilla then was probably healthy, lol
Your argument is the strawman. You’ve picked out some niche situations from a 15 year old MMO to try and support your “fix DPS que times” argument. You’ve got nothing.
It’s not a niche situation? Not to mention before role queue there was never a problem with DPS queueing and teams won matches? But okay. Clearly there’s no changing your mind. Have a nice day.
That’s fine, it is up to you.
If you are willing to play chicken with your team and basically be the kind of person who gives dps a bad name.
“It won’t be a problem (for me), because I am willing to make it a problem for other people, who I don’t care about, so please make it so that the most selfish players only get to play their roles, because I am willing to be that selfish player”
The only way you get to play dps in the old system is by forcing others to not play dps or for everyone to lose the game of chicken and play without tanks / support in comp.
The thing is, I loved flexing and that was my go-to playstyle. Now that roleq has killed that for me and i can’t play all three roles equally without having to wait more than i play, one can wish the system got removed.
Wanting to flex again isn’t a problem.
You couldn’t play all three roles equally without forcing other out of the dps role.
If you want to play all 3 roles equally, queue for all 3 and slowly drop the roles you keep getting put in, eventually you will have played all 3, and your average wait time won’t have been bad.
Since 2/3 of your games will pop really quickly.
