Team Fortress 2 has 142 viewers right now on twitch and it has the most lively communities ever
Warframe has about 1k viewers even though it is a very popular game on steam with a ton of concurrent players.
Overwatch right now has 17.8k viewers and is deemed dead. People use twitch viewers to show how dead the game is. If that is true, Rainbow Six Siege is very dead then because it has less viewers than Overwatch.
Twitch viewership going down doesn’t mean a game is dead
the views just shows that OWL is dead.
The game is dead for completely different reasons.
I don’t think people mean “dead” dead.
Rather, they’re contrasting how much of a darling media sensation OW was (back when every Kotaku, IGN, Buzzfeed article was about OW; even CNN/Forbes/MSNBC would dedicate time to OW) and how much money is being pumped into the OWL, that current viewership is very sub-par.
Obviously it’s not a truly dead game. I play actual dead games with low-3-digit playerbases and 2-digit reddit users, lol. OW is not THAT dead. But then, those games I play are also very small indie games.
this is when overwatch league has NO showings. when OWL is on, it bumps up to well over 100,000
They also show on YouTube now, and television.
Both eating into twitch viewership.
Still high viewership overall.
ok but steady OWL viewership is also no evidence against the claim of a declining playerbase
again, when owl isn’t airing it garners around 17k viewers on average
Last I checked, Warframe was not attempting to be an ESport in any way shape or form. Meaning concurrent players is a much better indication of game health as opposed to Twitch Viewership. Warframe is very consistently in the top 10 concurrent players on Steam so… they’re fine. Even if their Twitch numbers aren’t brilliant.
Overwatch on the other hand… yeah OWL is a thing. Twitch viewership matters for them.
no one is saying the game is dead…just dying.
ok but steady Twitch viewership is also no evidence against the claim of a declining playerbase
oh boy then siege is a garbage dead game then(btw siege is an esport)
In truth, I’ve never played Rainbow 6 siege so I can’t comment on that.
But kids only know what they’ve been told.
overwatch is not dead, the biggest streamers are just tired of the game while on other games, the biggest streamers stream the same game everyday
if they did stream ow, the viewersship would be around 40k+ but they don’t
Don’t get upset that people say your favorite game is dead it is just a thing people generally say to justify why they left the game without looking into it more any game that I have been into for more then a year is eventually called dead by someone. I mean people are even calling fortnite dead and it is very far from it.
I was saying siege consistently gets less viewers than OW. Even when Pro League is on
Heck most of the games with big numbers only get them during events as well
Every time I check a game that has 200k views there’s some esports match going on
and even apex for all it’s popularity I’ve seen hovering around 60k a lot lately…not exactly ground breaking
