Stop taking comp seriously. It's about having fun

People who take comp seriously becomes miserable really fast and come here to complain about it.
Instead just play for fun .it doesn’t matter if you win or lose.
If you care about SR that doesn’t mean anything then you’ll be miserable. Win or lose it doesn’t matter as long as you had fun. Play to get the comp points. So that means you have to win but since SR is not a problem and losing is not a big deal

People take it seriously and next thing you see is ohh this rank is toxic , I can’t get out, my team is dragging me down and I should be top 500 but because of bad team mates I’m in <500 blah blah in the forums

Here’s a thing, a lot of people misconstrue “having fun” with “not taking it seriously”. They’re not necessarily wrong, but they’re not right either.

My way of seeing it simply is that if the only thing that is fun out of competitive for you, which is the 15 second period of seeing the “Victory!” screen and your meaningless assigned number go up, then we have a big problem.

What is the point of competitive itself, if you don’t enjoy the playing aspect of the game? A lot of people post on these forums as if the only experience comp provides you is seeing your number either go up or down, and if it feels like it goes down too often then comp mode is a terrible place to be.

Some might disagree but imo if you’re not enjoying yourself on a moment-to-moment basis in any competitive game then you should probably not play that game anymore, since it’s really an unhealthy mindset to have that sets you up to post these venting posts on forums/social media.

And honestly, it just doesn’t make you happy, especially if you’re someone going through a rough time or if you’re prone to depressive behavior.

Op. I think you are forgetting that usually when the matchmaker starts picking teams it’s stomp or be stomped.

So yea… I hate not being able to do anything in a game. Hero choices are one thing but crap team comps are just evil. You pick sym as a second healer, I don’t like it but lets see if it works. But when I get a team of 15 dps and you go solo heals sym…Im upset.

It’s not just winning and losing.

It’s not having teamwork. People not communicating, not trying to win.

And then, there’s all these people that are just so aggravated to start with that they give up on first hiccup of the game.

I play comp because I’m always hoping for that team that tries to solve the situation and work together, but it’s hard, at least where I play.

I think I never saw a game where people don’t communicate as much as this. I played mostly Counterstrike as FPS goes and most people talk. Hell, they even talk in casual mode, withou talking is impossible to win…

Why don’t people play this as a team game? That’s what needs some brainstorming and could be improved.

The entire point of competitive is to try to win. It is the point. The point of QuickPlay etc is to play without the pressure of feeling like you have to win, even if you still would like to. It’s competitive. Compete.

Couldn’t agree more. If you want to have just fun then go to Arcade. It was a game mode designed around having fun. Don’t come into comp with the mindset of just wanting to have fun. Have the mindset of wanting to win.

you are aware that you’re telling people not to be competitive on Competitive Mode right?

I have 37 hours in Competitive on Pc, even more on Xbox, and you know what? I have yet to come and complain to the forums that the mode is “miserable” and no fun, (At least that I remember) you know why? I enjoyed it! WOW!
This is coming from a generally hyper-competitive guy, I take the game seriously at all times. Call me a tryhard if you want, I suppose I am.

I work hard to get better, bring my SR up as high as it can go, and I ENJOY it! WOW! How is it possible! Someone who take the game seriously AND has fun while doing it!?

Here’s a thing, a lot of people misconstrue “having fun” with “not taking it seriously”

This comes down to the question if a person can have fun in a competitive environment. What OP says is pretty much do whatever you want, doesn’t matter if you win or lose

Instead just play for fun .it doesn’t matter if you win or lose.

This isn’t a competitive mindset, you play a competitive game. Your goal should be to win no matter what, as with every other competitive game, sport etc.

People who go into competitive with this mindset and do whatever they like because they want to have fun should not be in competitive. If you want to do whatever and don’t care there is quickplay, arcade and custom games.

Competitive is competitive, you can’t enjoy it without making sacrifes and trying to win. Well tough luck, you don’t belong in a competitive game.

Definition for you.

Competitive: Having or displaying a strong desire to be more successful than others.

That’s part of it at least. This generally implies you will be taking it seriously. Also fun is subjective, for some people winning = fun.

See the problem with competitive isn’t the people taking it too seriously.

It is those people who want to enforce their way on others and think that if their teammates don’t play the way they want them to, they have the right to bully them into submission.

Its good they take the mode seriously, even if it isn’t a real competitive mode. (Its the QP matchmaker with a number) But they need to realize that their approach isn’t always the best approach… and whenever you play with random people you don’t know what their skillsets are in the game.

When expectations of skillsets don’t translate into reality, these people get triggered and ruins the experience for others. Then accusations of throwing get thrown around and other people get tilted.

Overall, people just need to learn to be better people and treat them with respect. Most everyone is there to win, but don’t neccessarily share your view in how to accomplish that… and that is not a bad thing… stop treating it like it is.

Well when you play for fun you don’t have any problem. Play what ever you want to play and not playing stuff you don’t wanna play. Arcade qp don’t give you comp points so people have to play comp to get them. Playing just to have fun and not to aim like "ahhh I’m gonna win at any cost " will make you a happy person than being angry at you team after you lose. If you lose you move on. Deafeat - leave game - search for another one

if i want to have fun, i’ll play arcade LUL.

I disagree with this statement. I take pleasure in competitive from winning, and trying my hardest. If you never take competitive seriously, or you try to not get upset about a loss, then you limit yourself from learning from your mistakes from those matches. In competitive you need to get in there and try your hardest to win!

Uhm…Buddy, oh pal you do know the point of competitive is to take it seriously right? If you don’t want to play on that level of seriousness play quick play. I don’t even play comp and I understand that man.
